I have a pretty flashy e-ring wedding band set, and I want a plain band to wear to work (many of my clients are very poor, and some live in rough neighborhoods), also for kayaking, camping, etc.
My jeweler is making my fiance’s band, and I had him make a wax mold of a band I thought I wanted. I was going to order it in 10K or 14 white gold ($650-$800). I’m not in love with it, and it wouldn’t be my wedding band, just a placeholder for when I don’t want to wear my real set.
So I’m thinking of just getting a plain cheap band from etsy or a department store, but I don’t want my finger to turn green, or for it to bend 🙂 I’d like 4-5mm.
Please recommend metals or rings for me, I’ve only bought gold before. Thanks Bees <3

@MrsBlah: I’m also from the Buffalo area! Anyway, I don’t have a place holder myself as I just wear my wedding band if I don’t want to wear my ering, but have you tried Amazon? They have really cheap jewelry that is 10/14k gold so it won’t turn your finger green!

I bought mine in palladium. It’s lightweight and does the trick. It won’t need to be dipped but it does get pretty scratched up and will need occassional polishing. I got it in 3mm but it comes in all widths (4mm and up are usually sold as men’s I think). I bought it from pompeii3.
I think silver is what turns people’s fingers green.

Maybe try berricle.com? I have a couple of RHRs in sterling silver and they never turn my finger green. They do need to be shined up occasionally though.

@MrsBlah: I’ve seen some very nice titanium bands, even with small diamonds in it. Doesn’t look to blingy but still can pass as a decent wedding band and they look great.

@MrsBlah: I plan on doing this for work/vacation/exercise/etc too. I’ve found some good ones on amazon for pretty cheap. I was starting to look at stainless steel bands because they’re inexpensive but I don’t know much about them.

Tungsten! It can take a beating and still stays super shiny. I have a 2mm tungsten placeholder band, and Fiance has a 6mm tungsten ring. Buy online, though; it is way overpriced in the stores ($30 for FI’s ring on amazon, $250 in the stores).
