I would add rose gold to your list.

My e-ring is 14k white gold.

My ring is 18k white gold.

White gold is the most popular. Yellow gold is making a return. Rose gold is really growing in popularity.

Some jewelers use a metal from the platinum family called palladium which can be a pain in your jewelers butt to work with. It’s pretty hard. But it’s also a lot cheaper than gold.

My store has a brand called P4 which is platinum, palladium, silver, and white gold mixed. It’s really inexpensive and looks like white gold. The color wears a lot faster though but that’s why you get $$ off.

I’m not as familiar with platinum since we don’t carry it in store only through our vendors. From my experience it’s more annoying to try to clean and can be a pain for the jeweler to work with.

I’ve found that the problem is more with the older rings that my customers bring in. I scrub the bejeezus out of them and they still don’t seem to clean up quite as well. I’ve seen some bent up ones too.  I’m not knocking platinum at all. I really don’t know as much about it other than the jeweler groaning when they come in and trying in vain to clean them haha.

I am very pale, but have always wanted yellow gold, and think it works well 🙂 So my e-ring is yellow gold and my wedding ring will be yellow gold

Platinum. I got married on the 28th and my engagement ring still looked as perfectly polished as my new wedding ring. ^_^

My e-ring and wedding band are platinum, and I absolutely love that they are. I have two other rings that are made from the more recent type of white gold (i.e. rhodium-plated) and, within just a few months, the bottoms of both rings began turning yellow. The prior type of white gold (like my mother’s bridal set that she has had for more than 50 years) did not do this.

My e-ring is palladium. I wanted a white metal, so that threw out yellow and rose gold. I didn’t want white gold because I’d have to get it redipped and it loses metal over time. Platinum was way too expensive (and the jeweler I worked with did not even use platinum). I got palladium because it has many of the benefits of platinum without the cost – white, doesn’t need redipped, and the metal is never lost. I’m very happy with it.

    Palladium 🙂

    For the same reasons above
