I have a round solitaire. I think it’s classic and timeless.

Perhaps he should get something classic and then she can get her personality in there with the band?

From your description of her I’d pick something vintage — close to a simple solitaire, but with a bit of carving/ornamentation. I can’t see something like this (for example) not having broad appeal unless she really hates rounds, or doesn’t like diamonds, and that’s something her future fiance should know already.

I have a 3 stone emerald cut moissanite ring

To me it is classic, elegant & flashy rather than sparkly

I currently have a pear shape halo and I’m upgrading to an oval halo, plain shank. I like the simplicity and elegance of both shapes. They stand out but are still classic, in my opinion.

My ring is unique, clean, Simple, and very non-traditional.  It’s a lot like me. I work in the construction industry. I’m a straight forward, no nonsense, career driven woman.

Oval halo with a plain shank. I think of myself as feminine but laid back, I wanted something traditional but a little different from a classic round solitaire and not as flashy as some of the current pave styles.

My style is very simple, classic timeless which is why I went with a white gold round solitare

I told DH that I liked round, princess, and cushion cut the best. He picked the cushion cut because it’s slightly curved but still squarish, which he thought fit my setting. He works with data too!

It does face up smaller than a round, but I like that it’s unique. I’ve seen my setting a few times on here, but I’m not sure I’ve seen it with other cushion cuts. I love my ring!

Why doesn’t he just ask her? Any couple who is serious enough to get engaged, should have at least talked about getting married. My guy would have had no clue what I wanted if we hadn’t talked about it. The ring he picked out is absolutely perfect. I hate diamonds. He got me a vintage ring from the 1930s. It has a pretty orange citrine set in gold with a delicate filigree rose pattern. So many women have been saying they wish they could go back in time and pick out heir ring, or at least tell their husbands what they like.

shlobin:  Mine is being made at the moment, custom done. I had to select solitaire in your options because it doesn’t have mine up there, which is a heart shaped diamond solitaire. It’s a 0.5, vs2, j colour, ideal cut chubby styled heart diamond. It’ll be set on a 2.5mm rose gold band with intricate leaf and vine like detailing. I enjoy classic styles with a twist/detail. I was close to getting a round cut with a detailed band but I saw a heart shaped diamond in person and fell in love with it.

In terms of picking a ring, it depends on her tastes and style. But always remember the 4 C’s when choosing a diamond, they can highly determine its quality.

I have a diamond three stone with rounds. My DH always wanted me to have a three stone and so that’s what we got 🙂

I have a Verragio solitaire with side diamonds, so from the top it looks pretty classic and traditional. But from the side it has scrollwork and three secret diamonds on each side, so it’s also my personal style. When people first see it they say it’s classic, sparkly, etc and then when they see it from the side they do a double take and say it’s unique, delicate, feminine, wow, so cool, so “me” (I love the Victorian-era) and vintage looking. I have the best of both worlds!

I love step cuts, emerald cuts in particular.  I also wanted something simple.  My husband purchased my center stone and setting from James Allen.  It’s a 2mm knife edge prong setting with a beautiful emerald cut.  We had my wedding band custom made by a local jeweler to sit flush with my engagement ring and incorporate blue (my favorite color) diamonds and sapphires into my set.  I think it’s the most perfect ring set I’ve ever seen.
