I have a very old Motorola DROID.  It has a hard keyboard, and since I don’t have my own laptop, this is very useful!  I can pound out e-mails almost as quickly as on a computer.  When I need to get a new phone, I’ll probably get the same phone only newer if it is available.

Fiance, who is a total tech geek, has a Samsung S3.  I love it, and sometimes get phone envy.  It just seems a lot more user friendly than friends’ Iphones.  They just unveiled the S4 today, and it is getting great reviews.

Most people I know prefer the Droid OS to the Iphone OS.

Here’s a comparison of the S4 vs Iphone 5.  I don’t know who wins in the end because I didn’t read it 🙂

iPhone 5 (I actually liked my 4S better, but someone stole it).  I used to do HR for a 3rd party carrier, so I have literally owned close to 20 phones.  Droid sucks and I will never purchase a phone with that OS.  It has 900 different versions of its OS for starters all named after sweet treats.  People were constantly returning them for new phones because they did not work right (and they didn’t) & back then Sprint didn’t sell iPhone.  I would own a Blackberry before I ever went Droid.

@olybride:  Well Motorla and Nexus are just manufacturers of phones.  If you really want to go droid, I would probably go Samsung.  Their phones are just higher quality and made better than the others in my personal opinion.

The problem with droid is that the OS often crashes (that’s my first issue).  I was constantly having to restart my phone to get them to work.  Apps on my iphone crash but NEVER the operating system.

Big problem number 2 is the six trillion versions of the OS.  It’s a testing playground.  I think the version of droid OS now is called Jellybean or something equally dumb?  In the time I had my droid phones there were no less than 7 versions of the OS to come out.  And then it got to the point where the new OS wasn’t even compatible with my phone.  Um, how does that work? And they also update these!!! It’s like Gingerbread v.1.23.3.4.5.5.3.3..4.4.5. and then it went to Honeycomb.  Just no.

With iPhone in the years it has been out has 6 versions TOTAL.  And they push updates intead of entirely new platforms.  6 has been out what, 2 years?  And its on v. 6.1.2.  because it doesn’t need constant tweaking.

Well, I have an iphone 5 and my Darling Husband has the Nexus. I’d recommend an Android to anyone who’s more tech-savy and loves customization. I’d recommend the iphone to anyone who likes the clean, sleek, user-friendly OS and a phone that’s equally nice to look at. The OS of the iphone needs some serious upgrading IMO, since it’s been the same forever, but you can always jailbreak.

@Eight6Eleven:  You can jailbreak any phone.  But it will void your warranty.

well, I think it depends on the phone you want to get. The top of the line androids are as good if not better than the iphone. I mean afterall, the top of the line ones are more similar to the new version of iphone, while the older versions are similar to the older versions of iphone (which no one here is recommending either…). If you go android, I highly recommend you pick a popular phone, such as the galaxy line, htc, or nexus. Those are the phones that will get supported, the ones that have a great online community, and the ones that you will have a much better experience, and will age more gracefully.

Yes perhaps android once had a lot of problems, but it has become a much more mature ecosystem.

That being said, if you dont care about customization or know nothing about technology, I would still recommend iphones, just because you don’t ever need to play with anything. If you’re like me, and like things a specific way, then you probably would be happier with an android.

@olybride:  Yep! I had a 3G, then a 4, and now the 5. I also have an iPad so I’m clearly an iFan. Haha. I like the operating system and user interface of them a lot. And so many apps!

I am not of much help, I still have my iphone 4, same as you. My husband has an iphone 4s.

But we both just got 2 matching 15″ retina display macbook pros, so our gadget budget is spent for now. lol

Samsung galaxy s3. I never ever wanted a touchscreen phone (had a blackberry before this). And honestly I love it to bits.

Would definitely recommend an android over an apple product, but you’d have to talk to my bf about the technical stuff. I mostly dislike apple on principal, hurr
