Inspired by a recent “what things annoyed you today”, I wanted to start a happy friday thread. So, other than the impending weekend, what made your day today?
For me it was finding out from a coworker that an airline started direct flights to my home country, for the first time ever! I’ve been living in the US for 14 years and each trip home is a 16-22 hour ordeal with at least one stop. I’ve missed connecting flights due to the first flight being delayed and had to spend the night at a strange airport terminal, had to lug suitcases through customs across terminals giving myself bruises all over, had to fight falling asleep at terminals during 5-hour overlays afraid someone’s going to steal my bag, and other lovely things like that. Then my poor mom had the worst experience once… Her English is limited and she is nervous about travelling alone to start with; one time she lost her boarding pass in an overlay in France and panicked so much she fainted at the airport. They managed to revive her and put her on the plane but since then she won’t come visit me by herself. Finally, my 85-year old grandma couldn’t make it to our wedding earlier this year because they decided the multi-leg trip would be too exhausting for her. And now, all of these problems are gone!!! I am so happy and calling mom first thing tomorrow!

That’s great meliss!!!! Smoother travels for you and your loved ones!
I got health insurance. Yep. Pretty big, right?! Plus, I went for a walk along the lake with my dog and it was really nice, now I am making a thai peanut chicken dinner.

@cbee: OH, that’s awesome! Health insurance is a HUGE piece of mind. Walks by the lake and peanut chicken sound nice too 🙂

My FH is in the midst of a 4-day weekend, and I have a 3-day weekend, so we woke up this Friday morning and went to breakfast. 🙂 They had mint mocha coffee and it was really good.
Then we did a ton of errands, but it was fun because we did them together (including paying the mortgage, getting 6 free tickets to an Anaheim Ducks game and depositing $75 worth of change into our wedding savings account!).
Then we hung out with my dad for a bit and then came home to relax. And then I picked up my WEDDING DRESS!! 🙂 I dropped it off at my FMIL’s house (she’s storing it for me because she doesn’t have any pets).
Now he’s cooking dinner and then we’re going to head out to a Ducks game tonight. Hopefully they continue with their winning streak. 🙂
AND it’s only FRIDAY! Woot!
Aw: My Future Mother-In-Law just called me to tell me how much she loves my dress (she wasn’t home when I dropped it off). YAY.

Work actually went really well for me last night and this morning. And I never ever cook and decided to cook a meal for my fiance tonight. I made cheese stuffed shells with fresh sauce made from tomatoes, garlic, and spices (I have never attempted that, ever) and it actually turned out really good which I was really excited about. It’s been about the little things today for me. I’ve never been on a plane but when researching potential honeymoons the layovers seemed so awful sounding to me. And I remember how excited I was to get health insurance at my current job back in July.

My job provided chocolate pop tarts for breakfast today.
I have been in a training class at work all week for transmission pipeline construction and it was actually very interesting. Today was the last day and we were done at noon! That’s 4 hours off my day!
I bought food and supplies for my daughter’s birthday party next week which makes me feel good because I am actually getting this done ahead of time instead of last minute. I am also thrilled with the idea that I decided to go with a small ice cream bar instead of a cake (she never really eats much cake).

lol…i found the cutest pair of red nine west flats at…Goodwill! I’m such a bargain hunter so i was pretty happy to find these hardly-worn beauties. I’m sure purchasing someone elses slightly-worn shoes would horrify some people but after using a couple of lysol wipes on them (just to be safe), I’m stoked : ) lol…i know there’s someone reading this going “omygosh..ew”. But you wouldnt know the difference if ya saw them on my feet ; ) made my day

My Fiance unexpectedly took me to Borders and told me to pick out a book I wanted. Then we got coffee and had a nice sweet chat at the coffee shop. It was just a nice, sweet gesture and it made me smile!

I visited my grandparents for a couple hours this afternoon. My grandmother has Alzheimer’s and is in a nursing home. My grandfather visits her every afternoon. I love visiting with them and seeing my grandfather hold her hand, he just loves her SO much. It’s just such a perfect example to me of the true meaning of wedding vows, he was with her when she was healthy, and now that she’s sick, that man is still by her side!

Fiance brought me 2 boquets of flowers thoughout the day for my birthday! He is so sweet!

Seeing one of my sweet little girls (I teach kindergarten) trying to teach a little boy letters by showing him how to make the letter using his body. This little boy struggles so much and it just lit up my heart to see her treating him with such care and compassion!!

The fact that its Friday. I swear, today was like the longest day ever! I also started my Christmas shopping which I’m sort of happy about. Not too thrilled with our depleted bank account because of this but ’tis the season!

Reading these stories is making me smile 🙂 Yay for everyone’s happy! I’m also getting hungry reading about pasta sauce and poptarts.
@bakerella: and @bakerella: Those are such heartwarming stories.

I went to a Lia Sophia party with a friend and got to chat and drink wine with other women…it was nice because I only have one friend that lives near me, and my sisters moved away this summer. Getting a little time with ladies was fun! Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with Fiance, but there is clearly a difference between hanging with him and home, and chatting with other women at a jewelry party…ha.

Hurray!!! I always like hearing about the happy positive things.
I’m really excited because today, I was offered (and accepted) a job doing work I really want to do–it feels like as close to ideal as I could imagine. I haven’t been working, and was expecting to have to wait a lot longer to find work I wanted to do. So that’s really exciting.
And following our celebratory dinner at a diner (my favorite type of food establishment), my fiance won me a stuffed penguin (my favorite animal) from a claw machine. Yay!
