They all look so pretty on the invitation vendor websites! You can’t really go wrong unless you include incorrect or misspelled information.

I think some beautiful calligraphy with some sort of detail (floral, watercolor, etc.) and printed on high-quality material (letterpress, etc.) is amazing. But I’m really into this kind of stuff, so I went all out.

and never underestimate the power of having your envelopes addressed by a talented calligrapher 😉

I think the most important thing is that it matches the tone of your wedding.  If you’re having a casual wedding but the invitations are engraved calligraphy, that’s weird.  If you’re having a formal wedding and the invitations have a cute picture of you and a bunch of illustrations, that’s weird. As long as they fit your wedding and nothing on them accidentally looks like genitalia, you’re good!

My first thought was “a clear font and easy-to-read layout” so I second julies1949!

For me, I like invitations that aren’t overly complicated or seem stuffed with information – like there’s a TON of stuff printed on it and it’s competing with a really exstensive design or something.

SurelyAsTheSunWillRise:  I also think the text. As in the message. I thought so hard for mine as the generic The Honour of your prescence” felt so um.. I don’t know. Cold and generic Maybe. I know you can’t go wrong with that. But I always think it’s so beautiful when there is a thoughtful message that has a bit more Warmth to it.

Calligraphy and a good use and balance of positive and negative space (whether that be through font, florals, etc). And wording. Warm wording makes the difference! I smile when I see things like the word joyous, or would be delighted.

I hate when a boring font is used and it is too small and the whole invitations feels like it is missing something.
