we are having a picnic lunch at the ceremony instead of a reception dinner and just having dessert at the reception.  Instead of a dollar dance we are having dollar light saber duels.  My bouquet is going to be made of fabric flowers instead of real or artificial ones.  Our centerpieces are going to be edible.

@[email protected]: Dollar light saber duels = BRILLIANT!

Our wedding was unusual in that we hosted something more along the lines of a fabulous dinner party. We skipped the band/DJ thing, the bouquet and garter tosses, and the official dances. We added cigars and scotch after dinner, had imported cheeses and petit fours instead of wedding cake, and sat with all of our guests at a single long table. It was perfect for us.

We are having our ceremony and reception at a pioneer village as well as providing wagon rides between the church and the hall! Our colours are cranberry and plum which is a little unusual and it’s in the winter. We are also having a traditional kind of dance – a contra dance!

We had a morning ceremony & brunch reception (later copied by our bestman’s wife at their wedding)

We had ALOT of DIY (very uncommon for our area AND again later copied by our bestman’s wife at their wedding)

We had paper flowers instead of real flowers

We used vinyl records as the table numbers, seating chart, and charger plates

AND our guys wore white tuxes.

All things not seen in our area before our wedding =)

Haha, I love the light-sabres!

  • We’re getting married on a frozen lake.
  • We are getting married at the exact spot we got engaged.
  • You can only get to our ceremony site by horse-drawn sleigh.
  • We’re getting married outside in the dead of winter (In Canada, this constitutes a big deal).
  • Our dinner will be at a restaurant where the menu is never the same two days in a row and centers around bison.
  • That our wedding will be less than $2,000 without taking into account my dress (this is beyond unheard of in our area for small affairs- elopement packages go for $5,000 +)

I think the only unique aspect of our wedding were our favors. They were little glass bottles that were filled with DH’s favorite hot sauce from a local Mexican restaurant.

But the boys also rode in on golf limos, which is at least pretty cool even though it’s not unique! We also had mini cakes that were delicious :).

I don’t know whether to say my ideas are unique but I know I’ve never seen these things being done at any of the weddings I’ve gone to. First I’m having the fan programs cause the ceremony will be outside. It’s not going to be hot but they could also use the programs as shade maybe?? Im also DIY some paper cones out of royal blue and yellow paper and the colors will alternate on each chair (the chairs are just plain white garden chairs) and the cones will be filled with rose petals for the guests to throw at the end of the ceremony. We are doing the sand ceremony kit instead of the lighting of the candles since it will be outside. I want to do the plate signing thing instead of the guest book but I haven’t looked too deep into that just yet. I also heard about a bouquet pull instead of a bouquet toss that I might be more interested in doing. Also I plan on getting some glass photo coasters with our engagement pics inserted as favors. Thats about all the ideas I got so far.
