I have a gigantic makeup collection, most of which is drugstore brands. I do have quite a few high-end brand items, though. It’s like a 70/30 mix. I looove my Mac Pro Longwear foundation. It’s about $30, but it lasts a long time and it’s 100% worth it. I also love Too Faced eyeshadow. Seriously. Too Faced is the best ever. I could just use their Natural Eye palette for the rest of my life and I’d be satisfied. Oh, and a good eye primer is a must. I love Urban Decay Primer Potion. I have a couple Mac blushes that I adore, too.

Recently I have been splurging a lot on Japanese cosmetics!!  I found this brand called Dolly Wink which I love, the packaging is cute and I love the products (mascara, eye liner, eyeshadow.. they are known for false eyelashes but I don’t buy/use those).  It’s considered a drugstore brand in Japan but it’s still kind of pricey (plus of course you have to import, and if you don’t have a Japanese store near you you’re going to have to order online).  But yeah, really into Japanese brands right now…

@MM423: Oooh that is a treacherous road you are going down. Once you start it is very difficult to go back. 😛

I splurge on pretty much everything; bare minerals, MAC lipstick/blush/eye shadow, Buxom Mascara, Clinique Lip Gloss…and pretty much anything sold at Sephora. I have found through experience that a majority of the higher end items contain more pigment and last longer. Plenty of women have great experiences with “drug store” cosmetics but I alas am not one of them.

Cosmedicine – MediMorphosis self adjusting exfoliator (face).  hands down the best exfoliating product I’ve ever used.

@MM423: Haha. I definitely get that “kid in a candy store” feeling in Sephora too. Makeup is like crack to me, I swear.

@Treejewel19:  How good really is bare minerals? Is it as good as they let on?

& To answer the question, none really. But I would like to start getting some GOOD long lasting makeup!

I have an olive skin tone so the drugstore cosmetics usually don’t look good on me. Those are usually pink undertones. Plus I have an oil slick on my face so I need long-wear stuff. I really like Make Up For Ever (MUFE); their HD line is great. I really like the Sephora brand bronzer because it doesn’t have any reflective particles in it, which is perfect for an oily skinned girl like moi. It’s completely matte.

I used to splurge on Smashbox primer but now I mix Monistat non-chafing gel with my MUFE HD concealor and MAC #40 and I am good to go for cheaper.

The only things I use that are “drugstore” are Mascara (I can’t beat L’oreal Voluminous Millionize) and my Neutrogena lotion/makeup remover wipes. I may have some eyeshadows floating around that are Maybelline or something but I don’t use them anymore.

As far as what I use, most commonly it’s some combination of the following… Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer in Color Adjust (to minimize redness), Paula Dorf Foundation Oil Free, Smashbox High Definition Concealer, Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder, Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder (if I feel particularly greasy), Benefit Brow Zings kit, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Liner, Fusion Beauty Lip Fusion XL, Urban Decay Lipstick, and Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control setting spray.

Redken Extreme Conditioner is THE BEST conditioner I’ve ever used. Redken is a drugstore brand but they also have a salon line that you can find at Ulta. It’s “only” $15/bottle and it lasts a long time, but I still consider that a splurge lol. http://www.redken.com/products/haircare/extreme/extreme-conditioner

I also only buy OPI nail polishes, which are $9/bottle, and I buy Clinique makeup which can be expensive. My concealer from them is $20 for a teeny-tiny tube D:

I love make up forevers eyeliner. It’s the only one that doesn’t run down my face halfway through the day and can even stand up to allergy season
