I think at those measurements you will be fine in pretty much whatever you desire to wear :-). I was a 35-25-36 at my final fitting and wore a trumpet/fit and flare, but I was definitely 5-10 lbs heavier when I started looking and, while I definitely preferred some styles to others, I felt like my body looked pretty good in most cuts. Wedding gowns are just wonderfully flattering things, and from what I’ve seen on other girls being just a few inches bigger in the hips than bust isn’t normally problematic at all, even in a very fitted silhouette.

By The Way, I was not trying to lose weight before my wedding–it just happened, I guess b/c I was really busy. So also bear in mind that your measurements might change a bit (my weight doesn’t normally fluctuate much, and since the wedding it’s crept back up to its usual place.)

I’m 34-26-36 and wore a mermaid.  I had padding in the cups to even out my shape, but I felt awesome in my gown.

I’m not sure what my exact measurements are but I had to order my dress in a size 2 to fit my hips/butt when my upper half is a size 0 (small bust!).  I would definitely say I’m a pear shape and it works with my fitted drop waist dress.

@MissButterTart: I don’t know my measurements but I am a very hippy size 16 with a small in comparison bust. I picked a trumpet silhouette with a sweetheart neckline. I feel like the shape of the dress along with the details help to balance me out and elongate me. I still plan on losing 15-30 pounds before having it altered to fit as I am uncomfortable with my tummy and arms.

It’s much more about proportion than quantitative measurements.

I am a pear shape and I think I read somewhere if your hips are at least 10″ larger than your bust, you are most likely a pear shape.  I have been corresponding with a wedding dress maker who says pear shapes actually fill out mermaid dresses and fit and flare better.   I am definitely a pear and I will be wearing a mermaid dress.  Hope this helps!

Your measurements are very similar to mine & I’m certain you’ll look fantastic in a mermaid. It will emphasize all your curves but they’ll be fantastic. I wish I had tried some mermaid dresses on when I was shopping for a gown.

I have a trumpet style gown and I am 35-27-37. I think with this style gown it also matters how tall you are because if you are short the gown starts flaring out even lower down on your legs, making the person look even shorter. There is one way to fix that problem… you have the bottom part of the gown (the part that flares out) cut off and raised up so the gown sits where it should.

I definitely think you could wear a mermaid with your measurements.

here is a pic of me in my dress (ps. lol I had to put the mirror on a stool to get a full length pic)

I’m definitely an hourglass shape and I never thought I could rock the mermaid, but I’m SO glad I chose it!!!
