@gemgirl6: How do you keep your sterling silver rings looking nice? I recently got one and I am worried it will turn green…or is that an old wives tale? I don’t know much about jewellery.
@sporting: I have a white gold engagement ring. I do have to get it dipped every so often but I don’t find that to be much of a hassle. I don’t know if it’s plated or unplated because I have no idea what that means! I like it though, if that counts, lol.

@somethingblue04: none of my silver has turned green, although unplated sterling silver will tarnish. Alot of the sterling silver today is plated with rhodium or is a proprietal mix with a bit of platinum to make it tarnish resistant. I have a silver polishing cloth I use, bought it in the jewelry section at Walmart.

Mine is 14K white gold. No issues with it. I have redipped it twice.

Oh and I have a rose gold wedding band that I love. I would buy both rose and white gold again.

I have plat and 14k and 18k rose. I prefer plat for white metals and 18k for rose or yellow. Unless it is with a Bridal Party moissy, then I prefer 14k, as it matches the stone better.

@sporting: mine is 18k white gold. i once thought i’d prefer platinum, but now that my gf has a platinum ring i think it looks dull really quickly after polishing – sorry girls that have platinum! sending my ring in to be replated once a year is a pain in the butt, but i think in general it looks better than the platinum (that i’ve seen).

For my ering, I had 14k YG for the first two settings (whole other story). My wedding band (channel set diamond band) and an anniversary ring that I also have (channel set diamond band) are both 14k YG.
My engagement diamond was recently reset into a 14k WG bezel. I thought it might end up as a RHR and usually wore WG on the right hand.
Now I wear WG on the left hand and YG on the right. 🙂

I have platinum, and I love it. I love the heft of platinum and the fact that it never needs to be re-dipped.

18k yellow gold including prongs.

I have and prefer 14k rose gold. I think it’s the perfect balance of strength and color, and I like that I don’t have to replate.

I had 14K WG that’s currently being reset into platinum. While I liked the color of WG and didn’t have any issues with yellowing after 6 months of wear, I definitely strongly prefer the heft of platinum – it just *feels* so much more luxurious. 🙂
And I actually prefer WG for studs, since I prefer those to be as light as possible.

My wedding set’s platinum, and I have another ring (which I wear instead of my wedding set) made of palladium. I like both metals. I really prefer the grayish color and heft of platinum, but like how affordable palladium is. I like that both metals don’t need to be replated and are hypoallergenic for most people. I’d say the biggest downside to both metals is how easily they scratch.

I have 18K white gold. I wish I could change it to two-tone white and yellow or rose gold. I don’t wear white gold and really don’t like how it looks on me.

Hmm…none of the above. My rings are 19K white gold and I love it. It remains white – with no need to rhodium plate it.

The shank of my ering is 14K rose gold and I love it! Its more pink than 18K, and its sturdier.
