I am trying to decide what mm band I want to get to go with my 2mm engagement ring. I have a plain solitaire and have been looking at either channel or shared prong bands that are 2mm.
However, the 2mm channel bands seem to have not enough sparkle to them because they have more metal showing face-up (does anyone know what this is called?). I am considering going larger mm in the channel to get more bling.
SOOO, bees please show me your PLAIN SOLITAIRES with band and tell me mm of both please!!
This is my (soon-to-be) e-ring: the sol281 low-set basket solitaire from Moissanite & Co. Size 4.75, 2carat/8mm round brilliant.

@Engineers_Girl: I have the opposite of you, but the same idea. Both bands are 2mm w 1/2 carat moissy.
I think a 3mm channel set band would look great with your e-ring!

@Engineers_Girl: Also, I love your ring! Can you post a side pic?

My e-ring isn’t quite 2mm…think it’s 1.8ish, w-band is 2.5…I think you should go for 2.5-3mm band

Don’t have a Solitaire… per se
(My ERing is a Cocktail style ring… so very chunky)
BUT I can show you what 2.5 & 3.0 mm WBands look like side-by-side
(Lol the nice thing about having 3 Rings is you can wear them in so many different ways)
My Plain Band is a 14 Kt WGold 2.5 mm one…
My Sparkly Band is 3.0 mm, 14 Kt WGold Channel Set Half-Eternity Band. It is listed as a Half-Carat (guaranteed range of 0.45 to 0.58 ctw). GIA Certified Canadian Diamonds… 10 Round Brilliants (each approx 0.055 Carats) of a Very Good Cut, F Colour, I Clarity.
This ring came from Peoples (the sister company in Canada for Zales) and cost $ 1000 CDN just before Christmas (regular price is $ 1200 CDN)
To be truly honest, when trying on rings, when it came to band widths, I didn’t see a lof of difference between 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm…
WHERE there was a lot of difference tho if you went below the 2.0 mark or above the 3.0 mm one.
Hope this helps,

My band is a 2.2 I think, love the look of a plain band with a diamond–common prong.

not sure what is the width on my band nor the carat weight though… the local jewelrer i bought it from didn’t say and i forgot to ask and just bought lols..
ETA: i just went and measured my wedding band and it is a true 2mm.. my solitaire band it is a tad shy from 2mm but it is sort of like knife shape so front to front the solitaire band looks smaller..

I love the look of your band with your solitaire! How thick is the band and/or what is the carat weight of the wedding band?
lol just realize i cant really answer your question as i dont know :(((.. i went to the local mall jewelry stores and try on all the band until i foundd this one that fit best…

hope this helps! It sits very low for the carat weight!

thanks for your input. I would like a 3 mm channel band. I wonder how many carats that would be on my finger size?

I agree with you the shared prong definitely looks the blingiest, but I am a nurse and plan to wear my band alone at work. This is the only reason I’m leaning towards channels.

@This Time Round:
thanks that actually helps me a lot! I’m loving your 3mm diamond band. Is it an eternity or half eternity? also what size is your finger? I’m trying to get an idea if carat weight for the band…
Post # 16
It is a Half-Eternity… and the Diamonds as you can see in the photo go far enough along that it always reads “diamonds” and never any blank band (the specs etc are back in my first Reply # 6)
I wouldn’t want a Full Eternity… the diamonds take too much abuse on the underside, but a as you have diamonds all around… it works out that the whole ring gets abused. My Plain WGold WBand is evidence enough of that already… the whole ring has “wear patina” already, and I’ve only had it since December.
(Altho for me “wear patina” isn’t a big deal… cause I actually like warm white gold)
My Finger is a Size 7. But I have short stubby hands & fingers… My longest finger is just 2.5 inches long.
When looking for a ring the Size (girth) of your finger tends to matter less in regards to how a ring looks on it than the length does.
(Kind of how your shoe size has nothing to do with how long your legs are… or what style of pants are going to look good on you)
Length is REALLY important… particularly the distance from the base of your Ring Finger to the first knuckle… where you actually wear the ring.
As I said, I have short fingers… on my hand that distance is a mere 3/4 inch (19 mm).
My best advice as always is GO TRY ON RINGS… What you see in a photo, or in a display case, won’t tell you a thing. ONLY trying things on will.
Hope this helps,
