I’ll admit it, I’m one of those 80s babies with a top-10 name and absolutely hated having to go by my first and last name, rather than just my first, because there were far too many of us. Rachels, Ashleys, Jessicas, etc. can definitely relate.
Because of that, we definitely want to steer clear of names that seem to be too popular now. Within our families/social circles those names seem to be:
Girls: Hannah, Olivia, Ava, Isla/Ila, Isabella/Bella, Peyton, Madison, Makayla/McKayla
Boys: Caden/Kaden, Brayden, Hayden, Jaden, Carson, Carter, Grady, Jackson/Jaxson
Nothing wrong with the names, just would prefer our children not be a “top 10” or “top 20” name!
What names are increasing in popularity among your social circles??

I seem to be seeing a lot of Sohpie’s, too. And basically any boy name that ends in -en. Those are getting a little ridiculous at this point.

Any name with a bizarre spelling (Alicia spelt Allyseyia, etc), backwards names (Neveah, Rehtaeh).
I worked in child care, and occasionally worked with the poor pre-K kids who were trying to learn how to spell all those unique names!

Sadly, Emily. SO loves it, and Emilio is a family name, so we may use it as a middle name if we have a girl someday

@BrandNewBride: I don’t get the bizarre spellings. We know two different “Emmalee’s” now. Just name them Emily!

I’m a teacher and I cannot tell you how many Kayleigh/ Kali/ Kaylee/ Cayleigh’s I have. SO annoying. And Emmas. And Ellas.
And Connors. I hate that name.

I named my daughter Kayleigh 16 years ago. I thought I was being so unique, I had no idea it was trendy! I’ve encountered quite a few Addisons and Rileys. Aiden is about wore out too.
@lealorali: I actually new a couple who named their child K-lee if you can believe it.

In my area we have lots of Naomi, Olivia, Katelyn, Ella, Ava,
Connor, Ryan, Brayen, Jayden,
I’m so sick of these names now!

@Holly77: I’ve heard of a bunch of people naming babies Naomi, but no one we actually know personally. I always think of Naomi Watts when I hear the name. Any idea why there’s a sudden uptick in popularity?
We also know two people who named baby boys Braxton. I always think of Braxton Hicks contractions when I hear it, lol.

@lealorali: Connor seems to have surged in popularity now for 10+ years! I thought it would’ve really lost popularity years ago, but I still keep hearing about new babies named Connor!

I was a camp counselor this summer, and the number of Ella/Ellies was unreal! Also saw lots of: Olivia, Molly, Zoe, and Laney/Lanie.
For boys, we had a bunch of Owens.
To be honest, I really think all of these names are adorable. So funny, because that’s probably what our parents were thinking about Ashley/Jessica/Caitlin.

@howsweetitis: haha, you’re right. My parents swore they didn’t know anyone else choosing my name at the time, despite it being THE most popular name for the year I was born. It isn’t an awful name. Just like I love Ava, Olivia, Sophia, and Isabella — but now definitely won’t use them because they’re just too popular!

@howsweetitis: lol, true. My favorite is rising in popularity but is still over 500 in line
