I need to book a photographer, and the one I am in love with is charging a bit more than I’d like to spend (ok, like double)… However, the pictures are the most important thing to me (besides actually getting married) so I’m ok with splurging for amazing magazine quality pictures… But my Fiance is making me feel like it’s an outrageous amount.
So I’m wondering, what percentage of your budget was for photography?

About 15%. We spent more than I had originally wanted to, but then I started researching and realized my mentally budgeted price was way too low! I’m very happy we spent the $$ on a good photog.

Mine will be about 15% – spending more than what we wanted to, but well worth it!

We are spending about 5%. Pictures were very important to us but I was only willing to spend so much. We were lucky to find awesome photographers that were right at the top of our photography budget.

about 11%. I got super super lucky. I could have easily spent half our overall budget.

Out of all the vendors we booked and things we had to pay for ourselves, the photographer was the most expensive, but its the most important ‘thing’ for me.
My fiance thinks its costing more than it should, but I priced out many photographers and the one I had to have was pretty much in line with a lot of others we met with.
Took our engagment photos with him this week…so anxious to see how they turned out!

We are spending a little under 5%

We never really had a budget (it’s not huge or anything either), but where it is now, it looks the photography is about 25%. Photos are the most important thing to me, and granted we bought the largest package offered: 8 hours, 2 photographers, engagement or bridal session, High resolution disc of our pictures, and a $300 print credit. We’ve also been given permission to print pictures anywhere we’d like. So while it has taken up a lot of our money, it really is something that we were ok with spending a little more on.

Whew! I’m definitely in the minority here! Our photog is just under 40% of the budget. We had set a budget of about $7-8k, and then the photographer I fell in love with ended up being twice as expensive as we had budgeted. But honestly, I bought a $300 dress so I could afford my photog (and I love my dress!) We also were lucky enough to find catering for $11/person and costco cakes for under $100. So we are making it work because the photographer was, in my opinion, the most important part.

i’m so glad you posted this because i am experiencing the same thing. i fell in love with a photographer who is almost double what i originally thought we would spend. when i first told my fiance about them he almost had a heart attack and said it was way too much money. after seeing their pictures he actually admitted he wanted them, too! so we’re both pretty much on board, but i still am wondering if it will be worth it to spend the extra money. it will end up being around 20% of our budget.
