graduatebride :  I prefer doing stuff as opposed to “working out”. I get my exercise mostly from soccer, yoga, walking my dog and hiking. I want to get more into kayaking and plan to buy one before next summer.

When I do feel the need to work out I have a small home gym in the basement with a treadmill, yoga mat, weights and other stuff. I’ll usually run on the treadmill for 30-40 minutes, stretch for 15-20 and do some different weights and resistance exercises for another 15-20.

We have a small tv down there as well so I will use working out as justification for watching trash shows my fiance would make fun of me for hahaha

graduatebride :  kayaking is awesome! I thoroughly enjoy it and holy hell is it an amazing workout!! One of the reasons I want to get more into it is because I feel like my upper body strength is definitely an area that needs improvement and I get bored lifting weights.

graduatebride :  does your city/town have a hiking group of meetup.com? Or any Facebook hiking groups?

I’ve recently picked up running. Honestly, when I first started I kind of hated it. Now I enjoy a good run and like pushing myself to reach faster times/longer distances. I’m hoping to do a half-marathon next year!

Hiking is also awesome exercise. I live in a state where I have super easy, quick access to a lot of great hiking trails. I only do hiking in the summer/fall though. But it’s a great way to stay active during those months. I’ve gone on my own a few times, thankfully my husband loves hiking just as much as me though he is always happy to go with me. There are A LOT of hiking groups on MeetUp.com if you are open to meeting some new people and don’t want to hike alone.

Swimming is another favorite of mine. I love, love, love to swim! I always have. Unfortunatly, I just don’t have it in my budget right now to pay for a gym membership so no swimming for me. But it’s great exercise, low impact, you get a bit of resistance for your muscles, and I find it strangely relaxing.

I really enjoy zumba. I love dancing so while it’s exhausting I have a ton of fun doing it.

My husband & I  bought kayaks a couple of years ago. I love kayaking. Nature. Exercise. And a little companionship.

I love weightlifting also! I know it can get boring at times, but I try to just mix up my schedule and add in crossfit workouts and do cardio twice a week.

I go solo. Longest trip I’ve taken totally alone was 9 days, 90 miles. There are Meet Up groups and Facebook groups where you could try to meet up with others, too! I would try that if you don’t know anyone personally to take along. graduatebride :

Snowshoeing is awesome! and some parks rent them out if you want to try it out before investing into buying your own. Also, be aware that in certain conditions and snow depths and on certain trails, snowshoes and/or micro spikes may be required. It’s for your own safety as well as trail maintanence. graduatebride :

I did aerial arts for years and it was an excellent workout, and addictive! I started with aerial yoga, moved in to aerial hoop/Lyra, then did some trapeze and silks too. It combines strength, cardio and flexibility all in one.
