Whenever I see a ruby, I want to see it in a big yellow gold setting…there’s just something so RICH and lush about that blazing red crested by the gold….
@Missus_LLC: ooooo I wanna play! I’m getting a ruby too! and those are my fave cuts! I just googled this but its simple and pretty
If it were my choice, I would go for cushion cut and either a halo or two larg-ish side diamonds.
I love Jessica Simpson’s ruby ring!
I’d do something like that, or put it in a cathedral style yellow gold solitaire setting.
I don’t know about setting, but I totally vote cushion! Soo lovely!
@Missus_LLC: I like the cushion shape best – it’s more unique and I just love that shape in general.
I like the look of ruby solitaires, or rubies flanked with a diamond (or two) on each side. I prefer the look of white gold or platinum.
Actually, I’d probably put it in a cathedral setting, with a 3mm yellow gold plain or engraved shank, white gold head and a small glittery diamond halo
If you can’t decide between round and cushion you could get a cushion halo with a round stone.
Hands down the cushion cut, I feel like it’s not something you see as much with rubies. I LOVE these options for settings:

I would also check out Laurie Sarah’s designs on Etsy. She’s fabulous to work with and she doesn’t a lot of work with colored gemstones: http://www.etsy.com/shop/LaurieSarahDesigns?section_id=5259570
Eeek! So pretty. I’d personally prefer a cushion cut ruby set into a cushion halo.
OR, a round cut ruby set into cushion halo,
OR, an oval cut ruby set into an oval halo.
Good luck!
I’d go for the cushion cut, put it in a three stone ring, ruby in the middle, diamond on either side. The best colour for the setting depends on the secondary hue of the ruby.
Of course, this is what I actually went for (hope you don’t mind):
For me, pear shape halo.
But out of your choices above I’d probably go for a cushion halo – I think they look fabulous with coloured centres.
