So, I’m having one of those completely indecisive moments….
We have square tables and are planning to do a runner in one direction. My dilemma — what would look better, square centerpieces or rectangular running in the same direction as the runners?

I think either would work. Although, do consider the size/diameter of the table when choosing the container to be sure that each guest has proper space for their place setting. It’s never fun when there is no room for your bread plate/wine glass/etc.

I think that square might look a little better. You could definitely do rectangle, although be sure it doesn’t cut into the space of the guests that are sitting at the table.
I’ve also seen circular centerpieces (if you’re doing flowers) on square tables, which looks good too.
What type of centerpieces are you thinking of having? I could offer better advice if I knew what they were!

I’m going to do some kind of wooden planter filled with wheatgrass, and then some votives surrounding. Pretty straightforward. I had originally planned to use wooden wine crates as the planters but those are proving pretty hard to come by.

Now that you’ve described it, I think square would look great!

I think either would look great, but a square would allow for more room. Have you considered using smaller round pots that you could group together? Something like this
