futuredoctorbee:  I looked at diamonds of all different shapes, but decided on a round.  I fell in love with the petal-like facets of the August Vintage Rounds by Good Old Gold.

Here is my pear. Started out wanting a round floral halo in white gold, went to look at ringd and fell in love with a rose gold pear shaped halo and a pink moissy. Complete 180, but i am in love. And I chose pear shaped because it was just so me.

fun fact. I did have an oval right before the pear, but i realized i needed a pear, and changed course. ๐Ÿ™‚

All the stones on my ering and wedding band is round. My center stone is an opaque black diamond so “sparkle” doesn’t matter as much. I like round cuts for the sparkle and classic shape, it also works in any setting. Beyond that I have a tenacy to like pears, emeralds, and oval cuts. Princess is a hit or miss, but I happened across an art deco princess cut ring, that I’m hoping to get custom made for my 10 anniversary.

I suggest just looking at rings and see which cuts and stylesjump out at you. That’s what I did!

SeeingSunshine:  AVRs are to die for! And I remember yours when you first got it in — has it been set yet? I’d love to see the finished product!

On topic: I have a round brilliant. I never wanted anything else since it’s what my mom had. Never even tried on anything else. But I do find the ovals and asschers I see around here to be absolutely gorgeous!

I went in looking for a pear, oval, or cushion with an elaborate setting. I ended up with a marquise solitaire. ๐Ÿ™‚ what I thought I wanted did not look good on my hand but looked gorgeous in the display.

When I was younger I was obsessed with squarish type shapes, but my tastes changed and I grew to love more traditional rings in round shapes. Before we got engaged I was pretty sure I wanted a round or oval shaped stone, and after ring shopping that just confirmed it for me. My custom ring is an oval sapphire with a sort of halo of tiny diamonds (hard to explain). I think it was mainly my taste that determined the decision although I also love emerald and baguette cuts, I had a very specific style in mind for that and it just didn’t look right on my hand. I really like the three stone look (as above) and thought I would get something like that, but again, it just didn’t look the best on me. I guess I had 3 or 4 settings I really wanted to try but kept an open mind because I knew that trying them on would make all the difference and it really did.

I chose an oval because I like the softness of a round shape, but my fingers are so small that even though I have a size 4.75 ring, my fingers look chubby! I find that the length of the oval helps to make my finger seem slender compared to a round ๐Ÿ™‚

Since I was a little girl I wanted a round diamond.  And I do still love rounds.  But, when the time came I feel in love with square shaped diamonds.  I finally decided on a square cushion shape which is something between a round and square at least in my eyes.  I love my cushion square shaped stone.

TheGridMonster:  It is still unset.  I can’t make up my damn mind :[  This past month I’ve been in contact with several custom jewelers and it’s only made me more confused!
