Just make sure you read it carefully! Also ensure that there isn’t a clause that permits them to raise the prices on you as the seasons change. I had a friend who that happened to. She booked in one year and had her wedding the year after, and in the fine print, it said that they could hike the prices as much as 20% if they wanted to, and they did!

I’m in a similar situation as Jo Vin and would love more bride’s input on what we should look out for in a venue contract.

Read it carefully and dont just sign!  Make sure the date, timing and location is correct.  Check the cancellation clause and to see if service charge and sales tax is included.  If you are contracting the caterer with the venue, also make sure the pricing is included in the contract.  Some places have a clause that if its more than a year out they have the right to raise prices – find out how much that would be and get them to settle on a certain percentage, it shouldnt be more than 5% and they should be able to show just cause for raising it (wage of staff going up, increased state tax, etc).  Also make sure everything you talked about is in the contract if they are including stuff that isnt a normal part of the package.
