Do you mean like preparing to TTC or like things to do while waiting? I didn’t do anything to prepare for it before we started. Once I came off the pill and we started TTC I started charting and taking prenatal vitamins.  As for doing things before TTC, we travelled, did a lot of renovations on our house, I started my master’s program, we work out when we can (which isn’t much), focused on savings and building up our investments and 401K now while we have money to spare, bought a family vehicle, and just enjoyed our time together and went out with friends!

You could take folic acid? It helps prevent birth defects but you need to be taking it before you conceive for it to be fully effective. It’s super cheap and so it might be worth starting to take it now so you’re in the habit. It also means you’re covered if you unexpectedly get pregnant before you’re ‘officially’ trying.

As far as your body- with a couple of years before TTC you dont need to do anything drastic. The best thing would just be to evaluate your weight / BMI etc and make sure you are within the healthy range and stay at a stable weight. Make sure you are eating correctly and exercising- basically make sure your body is at its optimal health before TTC.

Socially and financially, try to save up money and get comfortable in both your careers. Are you happy raising a baby where you live currently? If not, then start researching moving or areas you would be happier in that you can afford. Discuss what you want to do when the baby is born e.g will one of you want to leave work or drop to part time? and if this will affect you financially.

Finally, if there are any huge trips you want to take … like touring SE Asia or going on safari in Kenya- do it now while its cheaper and easier to plan.
