So, I recently got engaged!! And, in a fit of impulsivity, I went wedding dress shopping today at BHLDN “just to look.” 45 minutes later, I bought my dress. It’s Clover by Badgley Mischka. I originally thought I wanted something with straps, so I was surprised by how much I liked a strapless dress. My mom thinks it looks a little bare on top, and thinks I should have a topper. I only had a chance to try on one (the Seville topper by Tadashi Shoji), and I’m not sure how I feel about the color/texture of the lace against the dress. What do you think? If you think I should wear a topper, either for the ceremony or the whole shebang, is there another one you would recommend with this dress? I don’t need to cover up for religious reasons, and I plan to wear my hair down. Any feedback about the overall fit/look of it the dress is welcome too!

I like the lace top and you could wear it for the ceremony and pics, remove it for the dancing? You can also keep shopping for lace tops to find one you really love!!!

I LOVE your dress! I think it looks fine worn strapless, but if you want to make your Mom happy, you could wear the topper for the ceremony. You look great either way!

you look lovely without the topper but it does add a little something extra! I’m not sure I like the different fabric colors together like you said, but one the color of your dress would be gorgeous. You definitely don’t need one, but if you want to consider you mom’s feelings, I’d say some sort of cover.

I like the lace topper, but I also really like the simplicity of your dress without it! I think once you have a necklace on it won’t seem so bare!

Love it! For me, the color of the lace looks too different. I’d try a different topper. or leave it solo and style it minimalist. you really look great in it!

The lace topper is very pretty, but the dress alone looks good itself. You should keep the dress bare, it’s not like you have boobage all over the place. and you’ll have a veil I’m sure. If you think it’s bare go with something like shoulder jewlery on etsy. They’re very beautiful!

I’d leave the dress as is. You are totally stunning in it!!

I would leave the dress as is. You look amazing in it! The simplicity of the dress, and the lines are what makes it so stunning, and I think you’re messing with how the dress is designed to look.
With your hair down, and a necklace or dazzling earrings, it won’t look as bare as you think.

- Wedding: February 2016 - Church by the beach,
It looks so beautiful with the lace topper it adds something special and a good amount of coverage I don’t find strapless dresses very flattering.

Pretty dress!! I don’t think you need a topper at all…especially if you wear your hair down. The lace topper you tried on in the store looks too white for the ivory dress. My suggestion is to try a beaded capelet like the Phoenix Capelet at BHLDN. I think that would pair well with the old hollywood glamour look of your dress. Good luck!

I have a very different dress, but also very simple and strapless.
Im planning on getting a lace topper similar to what you have, to wear for the ceremony. I’m also looking into getting a “shoulder necklace” or crystal bolero, as @thaiL mentions above, for the reception.
While I love my dress as is I felt that it needed a little something extra to make it go bang!

I love the topper but if you are wearing your hair down then I would go bare. One of the prettiest parts about that topper is the beautiful neck line and with your hair down it would just cover it up. Either way it’s very pretty and looks great on you
