My mom recently gave me some of her old jewelry, including this tiny solitaire that she had bought herself when she was in her twenties. She has no idea of any of the details of it. My guess would be maybe a .2 ct??
Here it is on my size four finger.
Any guesses on the size of the stone?
I plan on wearing it as a RHR, and I’m just curious. ๐๐

Yes it looks about a 1/4 carat. Maybe even .15 since you said you have a size 4 finger. Was it necessary to refer to it as tiny though? You may not have meant it this way but your whole post is giving off a “hey how tiny is this little diamond (that my mom could afford in her 20’s) only worthy of being an RHR?” vibe. Many bees have Erings this size and below.
Measure it with a mm measuring tape and then use a diamond conversion chart.

11stardustwanderlust11 : I’d guess 0.15-0.20. It’s pretty!

amb1030 : Funny because I didn’t get that vibe from her post at all. It is in fact a tiny solitaire and there is nothing wrong with that. How else would she describe it so as not to offend anyone when it is small?

leekissesme : why does she need to describe its size at all? Isn’t that what she’s asking about with picture included? We can see.
Small solitaire sounds much less abrasive than “tiny.” Just saying..

Yeah, as Amb1030 said – it’s prob 0.15 – 0.2 – but I wouldn’t refer to it as ‘small’. ย I see this a lot as an ‘American attitude’ that anything under 1 ct is ‘tiny’. In most other countries 0.25 is a fairly decently sized e-ring. Don’t put your ring down just because it’s not gigantic. Appreciate it for what it is – a gorgeous diamondย

amb1030 : perhaps she is a descriptive person or just a person in general that provides details. If I go get my car fixed land they give me a big ass bill I’m not going to just say I got a bill. And vice versa if they give me a super small bill I would say that too.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. For me I don’t see a problem with her being descriptive and this is coming from someone who used to have small diamond solitaire herself. Not everyone find the word “tiny” offensive unless penis size is being discussed ๐

leekissesme : Ok? It’s just the people tend to attach a lot of sentiment to an engagement ring and seeing someone posting about “how tiny is this TINY solitaire I’ll be wearing on my right hand” could be a little upsetting to someone who has an even smaller stone. By the way, her solitaire is NOT tiny and it’s rude to say so. .15.2 is not that small.

amb1030 : ok, understood. I’ll just agree to disagree with you on this and not disturb the thread any further.

amb1030 : shoot I’m sorry I didn’t mean it that way at all. Considering the fact that I love this ring and it means an awful lot to me because it was my mom’s, there’s no way I’d want to insult it. If my wording is hurtful to you, I can just remove the post if you like? Again, my apologies. ๐๐
leekissesme : thanks for the benefit of the doubt. The last thing I meant was to be hurtful to anyone.

11stardustwanderlust11 : I didn’t find it rude or hurtful. But on the internet there a ton of different opinions, personalities, thought processes, backgrounds, etc chiming in so just know that you can offend someone for just saying have a great day ๐๐

mishybear : thank you for the info. ๐By no means did I mean to be hurtful; I love this ring and it means a lot to me. I assure you my sentiment was an endearing one.
Jee, I would have never thought I would get so much heat describing a piece of my own jewelry. ๐
