My boyfriend recently asked me what type of rings I like. I’m really bad at judging diamond sizes and I don’t want to go to look at rings with my boyfriend for personal reasons! I like the look of this size diamond and this ring but I have no idea what size this may be in order to give him some ideas. What are your best guesses for an estimate of this diamond size? One carat?

I’m no expert, but I’d guess 1 carat.

Looks like 0.5. What size is that finger?

Assuming a size 6 finger, I’d guess around .60 ct or so.

It’s most likely around 1ct as princess cuts face up smaller than round brilliants (a 1ct princess is 5.5mm whereas a 1ct round is 6.5mm), but that’s assuming the finger in that photo is approx a size 6.
I always suggest this, but that’s because it’s great at helping people visualize: diamdb. Plug in your finger size and play around with princess cuts of different carat sizes to see what proportion you like on your finger!

My best guess is a 0.8 carat on a size 6

My guess is that her ring size is between 6-7 and that the ring is around a carat, give or take .25 based on not knowing her ring size. Princesses do face up smaller than RBs. Ring size can be quite deceiving sometimes though and affect what the carat size looks like. For example, here is a 2.12 carat moissy on a size 7.25 finger:
I would order some CZs in differing carat weights to see what feels right to you. Happy shopping! It’s such a fun part. ♥️

Looks to be around 1 carat, depending on her finger size.

That looks larger than a 1 ct princess. Her finger size looks to me to be between a 6 and a 7.
I have a size 5.25 finger. My ring is currently sized to 5.5. This is 1 carat on a smaller finger.
Princess cuts face up smaller than round brilliants. My guess is that’s a 1.25 to 1.5 ct stone

I think 1 carat is a safe guess

Looks like a 1ct or a little larger to me, I have a 1.11ct on a size 7 and it looks about the same:)

As others have said, the proportions are going to be totally dependent on the finger size. Different diamond cuts also “face up” different sizes even if they’re the same weight. Even within the same cut (e.g. princess, oval) individual stones can appear larger or smaller based on the way they are cut (you can have a shallow stone that appears larger, or a very deeply cut stone that appears smaller from the top view, and keep in mind that an ideally cut stone will typically seem larger and sparklier than a poorly cut one).

Its almost impossible to guess without having the ring size. But it is scalable right? So.. if she has a size 6 finger, it looks to be 1ct. Size 7-8 it would be more like .5-.7. Walk into any walmart and try something on for yourself.

jpjbee : You said you don’t want to go look at rings with your boyfriend for personal reasons. Is there a reason you can’t go look on your own? It will give you a chance to see what things look like on your hand and be really clear about what you want and don’t want. I’ve personally experienced (and also heard from others) that we may have one idea of what we’d like and then changed once we had a chance to see it in person.

jpjbee : About .75 carat me thinks.
