I’m a lawyer – been one for 3 years.  Fiance is studying for the bar.  He bought me a 2ct.  I can post a picture, but my finger is bigger than yours and it’s a round 2ct and no halo.  But, I don’t think 1ct can ever look too big, even with a halo around it.  If you could afford the diamond now, then I don’t see how it could be too big even if it is a moissy?

I think 6×6 is the perfect size.

    I have a 6.5mm round in a halo and my finger is 5.5. I think it’s perfect!

I’m 23 with a 1ct round moissanite (size 4.5 finger), and I felt self-conscious about it for maybe a week after getting it.  I was worried that my coworkers (who make the same amount as I do, and it’s not a ton) would think that blew $5-10k on a ring, but I didn’t want to just go around telling every random person who could see my finger that it was moissanite, since that’s just weird (and if it was a diamond I wouldn’t run around telling people that either).

However, I don’t think 1ct is remarkably big.  Granted, we’ve always lived in coastal cities, but no one really looks at 1ct and says “wow, that’s huge!”  It’s definitely not a small ring either (and I do think that my family expected me to recieve a smaller diamond), but it’s not extravagantly large.

Have you considered ordering a loose moissanite just to make sure you love it first? Or do you want that ring setting regardless and plan to just switch out the moissy for a diamond if you don’t like it?

I think the 6mm is a good size, I wouldn’t go much smaller than that just because you might wish you had gone bigger later.

Like @starla: recommended, I also suggest ordering a loose stone to see if you love it first. You can always return it if you don’t then you won’t have to deal with trying to replace it with a diamond or reselling or resetting the moissy.

As for the size, I don’t think that size will look “too” big. I got engaged at 21 with a 1.25 moissy and everyone only says how beautiful it is… and I have to agree! Smile

I completely understand how you’re feeling.  I have *finally* decided on an engagement ring.  I’m 25, brand new teacher, fiance is still in law school.  I have small  hands too and wear a 4.75 ring.  I am really afraid of the ring looking garish and huge.  I don’t mind telling my friends it’s moissanite but for most people who see it I don’t want them to think he either spent an absurd amount or that it must be CZ.  Now that I’ve decided to go with a halo, I’m even more worried because halos make the gem look huge!  I’m currently having a debate between a 5.5 and a 6mm cushion cut myself.  I suggest that you just do what I’m doing and look at pics all over this website of halo rings to get a sense of how they look on real hands!  (I’m buying from moissaniteco.com, so I can’t try it on in person!)

I also got a moissanite through moissanite.com, except I got a solitaire 2ct round stone. I should mention I’m 4’9″ and my ring was supposed to be a size 4.5. Funny little story regarding the frustrations of receiving the ring. My boyfriend ordered it November 26, 2012 and items supposedly ship 5-10 days after placing the order. We were told it’d arrive by Christmas. However, the holidays passed and around New Year’s Eve, my boyfriend contacted them again and they said one of the prongs was defective so they didn’t ship it out yet and also the goldsmiths weren’t back at work until January 3, 2013. It finally shipped out and my boyfriend received in on January 9th…approximately 7 weeks after he placed the order. He proposed yesterday and lo and behold it’s totally the wrong size! I’m thinking they shipped out the standard ring size because they were rushing to ship it out.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorrrgeous ring (and I also don’t feel like telling everyone about moissanite) but the hassle of getting it was pretty annoying.

I’m going to see if a local jeweler can resize it because I don’t think I can deal with the company in regards to shipping.
