Mid 90’s to mid 00’s Top 40 brings me back to middle, high school and first college stint where I was on and off happy, depressed, unstable, confused, binge eating, had millions of crushes, wanted to get laid..

Classic Disney movie songs bring me back to pre puberty childhood ❤ when i was happy 🙂

For me it’s actually three Christmas albums. Bing Crosby’s 1945 Christmas album, Burl Ives 1964 Christmas album, and The Carpenters 1984 Christmas Album (Released after Karen Carpenters death).  All of them were released before I was born, but they were always played in my house over the holiday season…they can be heard in the background of all our home movies of that time. Whenever I hear even a soundbite I am suddenly a child again….but somehow the magic of the music glosses over the hell of growing up with a narcissistic/abusive Mom, and her enabler – my Dad.

It’s like nothing could possibly be wrong when I think of those songs. They are the only songs from my childhood I can think of that don’t bring me pain.

American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken dreams, wake me up when September ends. All by Greenday. My fourth grade self must’ve been an angry sad kid.

Afroman in highschool definitely think I just listened to this to make my ultra conservative basketball coach uncomfortable

Not sure who sings it but that old song “Hit the road Jack”. It was on the radio in the car one day and I started making up silly lyrics and my grandma and I just laughed and laughed.

Anything from the Nirvana Nevermind album. My dad had a friend who worked for a record company and he would send him boxes and boxes of tapes he got for free. That was one of the albums. I remember turning it on and I was like 12 years old. It wasnt like anything I had ever heard before. I wore that tape out! It ignited my love for 90’s alternative music which to this day is still my favorite genre.

Tom Petty- Won’t back down…I was trying so hard to record this song onto a cassette tape from the TV (Back when MTV actually had music), and while recording, my dad went walking through the house singing “Heyyyy babyyy!”.  I remember being SO mad that he ruined my recording! haha

Also, anything New Kids on the Block & any and all 90s music.

I literally still listen to 90s music on a daily basis.
