Let me have a peek at our DJ list here…(Pardon the formatting, I’m literally cut and pasting from the planner the DJ sent us)

Top 10 must play:

1. Forever – Ben Harper
2.  John Legend – Stay with you
3. Jack Johnson – Better together
4. Dixie Chicks – Lullaby
5. It’s Like That – Run DMC
6. It takes Two – Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock
7. Rappers Delight – Sugarhill Gang
8. Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen
9. Billie Jean – Michael Jackson
10. Hold My Head Above The Water – Quiet Company

Dinner hour Music: Older jazz (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin) mixed with some newer versions of old jazz (Michael Buble, Norah Jones, etc). If there’s any opportunity to mix in some Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd, Matt Costa, that would make us happy too.

Favourite genres:

–          Oldies oldies oldies!!!!

–          Old school hip hop like Run DMC, Cypress Hill, Arrested Development

–          Top 20/pop – Rihanna, Travis McCoy, Cascada, Jay-Z, Fergie, Anjulie, Kanye West, etc

–          Michael Jackson & Jackson 5

–          Some 80s music

Do not play songs:

–          Generally, no heavy rock like AC/DC, Metallica, GNR, etc.

–          Group dance songs like Macarena, hokey pokey, etc

–          Another One Bites the Dust

–          Thunderstruck

–          No Miley Cyrus as per groom’s request

Your Last dance:    Just Breathe – Pearl Jam

Time:  12:50am (have to be out at 1am)

Our DJ was awesome and the music was PERFECT. She did such an amazing job to say the least! One thing we did that was really meaningful to a few guests was put our friends wedding songs on our Must Play list (friends that were recently married in the last year or two). They noticed and were really touched that we had thought to include it for them 🙂

During our cocktail hour we had a live jazz trio and I pretty much missed the whole thing so I don’t have any suggestions, sorry!

One song I’m going to play at my wedding is “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain. I’m also thinking about “From This Moment” by Shania Twain, “I Could Not Ask For More” by Edwin McCain, “Couldn’t Love You More” by Beauty Rush, and more. I’m going to have a cd of love songs playing in the background all threw the reception though so I have a long list.

@bakerella: I’m sorry, I’m LOL’ing at your do not play list because most of it is on our MUST play list!! Fiance and his best man were in an AC/DC cover band before we met, so there will be pleeeennnty of AC/DC and our first dance song will be to Metallica.

Oh and Rappers Delight is NOT allowed to be played.

I love reading how different everyone’s choices are for music!!!

My Fiance likes rnb and my music taste is pretty all rounded so I let him pick the song.

He picked Back at One by Brian Mcknight for our bridal waltz.

I really think the song is a good representation of how he feels for me and I love it so we’re going with that. We haven’t built the rest of the playlist yet so thanks for your ideas.

We have our standards dances that are obviously must haves.. our wedding song is I love how you love me- Neutral Milk hotel… Our one and only MUST have is Frank sinatra the way you look tonight… its not to be played at cocktail hour or during dinner, but absolutely ONLY at a time when we can dance to it… Our absolutely do not play list is Making memories of us (My sisters wedding song and her marriage is no longer… I dont want to upset her), hokey pokey chicken dance and macarena… I have a more detailed list of please do and donts but these were the most important

PYT- Michael Jackson MUST PLAY!!!

Any song that has a dance with it (cupid shuffle, ymca, macarena, etc) is a DO NOT PLAY.  My Fiance hates songs like that, and I love him, so I will forego the Cupid Shuffle.

@beth1125: OOH, those are must plays for us too! I am music junkie so this is a very important thing for me:

Besides the two above and our dance songs, some songs on our Must Play list include:

Let’s Stay Together- Al Green

Love Me Tender – Norah Jones’ version

Miss Independent (my former theme song) – Kelly Clarkson

Feel Good Inc – Gorillaz

Motown Philly – Boyz II Men – an homage to my former roomates’ drunken karaoke nights

Sweet Caroline

Born In the USA

Whatta Man – Salt n Peppa (selective parts – for the garter toss)

Falling Slowly – Swell Season

My Same – Adele

Regulators – Warren G

..and tons more.

On the DO NOT play list:

Anything country/death metal/hardcore rap
