Here’s why I ask- my FI’s 30th birthday is exactly a month before the wedding. My financial well will pretty much have been tapped dry by then. But I want to make it super duper special. I always envisioned doing something extravagent for his 30th… that ship may have sailed. So, what can I do? I probably have about $200-250 that I can manage to spend (and that’s totally pushin’ it).
I’m sure you guys can give some inspiration! Please don’t mention watches! Lol, we’ve been together for 7 years and he’s lost 3 watches, he’s the worst! Haha

Last year, he turned 30, so we did a day that made him feel like a “kid.” I made him a really obnoxious birthday button to wear, we went to the waterpark and the magic kingdom (we live in orlando) and we just spent time together, which is the best gift, since our schedules currently clash. =)

My fiance is super into cars. We went to Cali one year to visit his friends and I suprised him by taking him to a track and let him race an F-1 car. He was STOKED.
Another year I threw him a suprise party. Nothing huge, about 30 people came. I had noticed that his bday was the day before his gmoms and she always had precedent over his. So his family never really did anythign special for him. SO i took it upon myself to make his bday a big deal. I ordered special invitations and had a black/red/grey theme going, even went and got a 3D cake of his car made. I made most of the food and my mom came to help. The only hard part was trying to get him out of the house long enough to cook everyhitng without giving it away. lol
He said that was by far his best ever birthday. Because he actually felt special 🙂

last year, the day of his birthday we were out at happy hour with our friends.. i made him carry a balloon around all night 🙂 i also decorated a wine box with paper with clouds on it and when it opened the inside had a plane sticker and i stamped “This is to celebrate your first skydive on sunday.” (there was a bottle of champagne in there). I organized a trip for a bunch of us to go skydiving. I had already done it a few times in college and when we first met he was so impressed and always said he wanted to go. We had a blast.. we all jumped in the early afternoon, went out to lunch, and then went out to celebrate that night. He said it was his best bday ever.
We like to do concerts or take little trips for each other instead of buying physical things. We feel we are going to do those things anyway so its nice to treat each other. 2 years ago we saw bonjovi for my birthday and last year we saw paul mccartnet… i just saw DMB is playing the day after this year.. we will see.

For my FI’s 30th, I invited ALL his friends to a local pub. We got to hang out and socialize with about 60 of his closest friends… and it didn’t cost me a cent!

For his 16th birthday, I wrapped up sixteen different presents for him, and then took him on a fun day around town, and had him open them one at a time. They weren’t big or anything – one was just a mix CD to put on while we were driving to our destination, for example – but he loved it.
More recently, we’ve done things like a show and then a night at a fancy hotel (he actually did this for me, he went through Orbitz and got a really nice room for $110 as long as we got there after 5 pm) in the Loop.
Honestly, I think it really depends on his personality! The best present R ever gave me was when he paid to have my horse trailered from Texas, where her old home was, to Illinois. It meant the world to me!

The first year we were together I cooked his favorite dinner for him..down to the dessert: pot roast, green peas, mashed potatoes, honey butter croissant rolls, and strawberry cake. All from scratch!
The second year I threw him his first surprise dinner ever. I had it at P.F. Changs, so everyone paid for their own meal. He was so surprised! I also did a “!2 DAys of Your Birthday”. I got random gifts from the dollar store that had something to do with cars. The final gift was a ride alon in a NASCAR racecar.
This year I took him to dinner and then out for dessert.

these are such great ideas! My Fiance is turning 25 the day after my son turns 2, so we are having a “joint” birthday. Poor Fiance gets to share a Elmo cake with a 2-year-old! So I really want to surprise him and do something for just him! So thanks for the ideas!

last year i took him to Epcot, b/c they had the free park admission on your birthday in 2009. When we were there, we had lunch/dinner at the nice restaurant with the huge aquarium. He took me to see Snoop Dogg on my birthday. We usually go places or do random things that are memorable for us, vs a gift. That usually comes in under 250 too.

For his 20th (or 19th) I don’t remember, I rented the ice pad in the arena and invited all his friends. I took him there after just the two of us went for dinner, I blinfolded him and did some dounuts in a parking lot and drove to the arena.. good thing he had no clue where we were going. lol. They played pick-up hockey then everyone came back to his parents house and hung out and ate nachos and meatballs & chicken wings. (all his fav’s).
It was so much fun!

I’m not really that creative. I just took him out for dinner at his favorite restaurant Hometown buffet.
But I wish I could be more creative this year. I will definitely be reading this post for ideas.
Good luck! And congrats!

For his 23rd birthday I surprised him by taking a trip to NYC to see The Blue Man Group. He had no idea what we were doing until we got to the theater! He loved it and it was a very memorable thing for us. This year for his birthday I got him flying lessons!

For the past two years for FI’s birthday I’ve hired a personal chef to come make us dinner. It’s our favourite night of the year! It’s really romantic, no work for me (bonus!), and it’s nice to have an excuse to be super indulgent 😉

Hm. We’ve been going kinda crazy for the big 3-0 in our neck of the woods.
For his eldest brother there was a big ol surprise party at the local microbrewery. 2nd brother we took him skydiving (totally within your budget but you don’t want to do that 1 month before the wedding!). For FI’s big 3-0 he got a surprise party and a helicopter ride!!!
I think the helicopter ride for two can def be within your budget.
Years past I have surprised him with front line (like 3rows from the field) football tickets.
I would say given the situation and time frame before the wedding why not do a small backyard BBQ surprise party? He def would not expect something like that so close to the wedding.
Make it potluck and you can provide 1 or 2 items and the beverages. Something relaxing with close friends and family.
