I’m not asking this to be catty or petty, I just really want to know what others consider to be New England! Having grown up in New England I have always thought it to be made up of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, & Connecticut. On another thread someone wrote the following…the New England colonies consisted of 13 states, thats why early versions of the american flag had only 13 stars. those 13 states made up New England. That is also why there are 13 stripes on the current flag. At least that is what i was told in school. And Ohio was part of them.
I’m going to be pretty disappointed in myself if I have been thinking one thing when it’s really the other, mostly because I friggin’ live here lol!

I’ve always thought of it as the same as you.

Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Definitely not Ohio, though I wish I lived in New England sometimes! 🙂

New England is six states. Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. This is not a matter of opinion; it is a fact.

NY is considered NE by some.

EVERYONE knows Ohio is part of New England, guys. 😉

Nope you’re right. The 13 original colonies are NOT new england!!

The information about the flag is correct, though. Ohio was not an original colony; neither was Maine. The original thirteen are: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

+1 sometimes.. I may consider it that too.. but coming from my mother (who grew up in Massachusetts) she says NY is not New England.. but she can see how people from elsewhere can say it is. I think the big mix up is that it’s part of the NorthEast… which is also abbreviated NE

Those some are incorrect.

Aye. They’re states, not colonies. Ct, Maine, Vermont, mass, new Hampshire and rhode island.

You are correct in the ones you thought it was. I giggled when I read: CT, DE, GA, MD, MA, New Husband, NJ, NY, NC, SC, PA, RI & VA.

Haha. Pennsylvanians do NOT consider themselves New Englanders!
Either Mid Atlantic and/or Rust Belt

New York is definitely not in New England.
