So I got this beauty out of my genuine gemstone collection candle yesterday and when I put the code in to the appraisal bit on the website it said it was amethyst and diamond on sterling silver…..wait…WHAT?! AMETHYST?!
To me it looks like either an aquamarine or a light blue topaz. Any ideas bees? Does amethyst come in this colour? I googled it but didn’t get much joy.

It’s gorgeous! I think it looks like a light blue topaz. Amethyst comes in light green and the obvious purple, but I’ve never seen or heard of blue before. I could be wrong.

Would say Swiss blue topaz

Blue Amethys is a dark purple/blue so definitely not an Amethyst. It’s either an Aquamarine, Apatite or Topaz.

I’ve never gotten anything that pretty out of a candle! Nice! Looks like topaz to me. 🙂

WELL!! The mystery is solved! I posted a photo of it on one of their Facebook posts…not asking what it was but just saying it didn’t look like any amethyst I have ever seen and got this reply from them…
Thank you all for your replies and interest 💗

Amethyst is a quartz and when heat treated, can turn bluish green. There are also some naturally occuring quartzes in that color but most likely this started life as a purple amethyst and the color is from heat treatment. Very pretty!
Ah — just saw your update. I wouldn’t be too confident in their new identification. They’re pretty close on the mohs scale, so care would be the same anyways. And still pretty in either case!
