Hi Bees! Hubbster just surprised me by telling me my Christmas present is gonna be a brand new SUV. Now I LOVE VW cars, that’s all I’ve ever had, so I’ve always wanted a Tiguan, I was set on it. Now hubby says I can have the Tiguan track and fun or any other suv (in that price range). So I’ve been looking at other brands like Toyota’s Rav4, Mazdas Cx-5, BMW- X3, Range Rover- Evoque, and I realised I am basing my decision purely on the looks of it, cause I really have no idea what the specifications really mean. Now the question is, do you have any advice, like have you had any good or bad experiences with any of this SUV’s??
Thanks!!! I’ll add a poll just for fun

@weddingbee098: Good one, I hadn’t thought of tha one.
@adoc86: I know I’m in love….. i’ll have to go in and see how equiped is “less equiped” for them

Off of that list, I would choose the Toyota. I would be concerned about reliability issues and cost of repairs of the Tiguan, X3, and Evoque. Also, premium gas.
You should also check out the Honda CR-V and the Subaru Forester. I just test drove a 2014 Subaru Forester and it was great. HUGE moonroof, plus they’re really safe and reliable and Subaru’s AWD system is the best.
Make sure you check out Consumer Reports for reliability ratings.

@2013septemberbride: I think most luxury cars come standard with what most makes consider upgrades. Sometimes I don’t really care about what they consider well equipped anyway. I don’t plan to tow things or anything like that haha.
I am about to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I LOVE the 2014s. My Darling Husband is loving the RR Evoque right now. We just saw one for the first time last week and it was really nice.

@weddingbee098: +1 I think that will be our next car – I like the Rogue too, but it is a little small.
We have a 2011 Rav4 and it is just OK. Ours is fully equipped and I love the sunroof and heated seats but you can get that with any car. There are several small things that I don’t like: (1) the navi system – it doesn’t work if you aren’t in Park, which is soo irritating. We don’t even use it, we just use our phones. (2) you can’t put the back seats flat without taking off the backseat headrests – so we put them on the floor and they get all dirty. (3) hate the way the trunk opens sideways, like a regular door.

@2013septemberbride: I can tell you based on the many, many reiterations from car sales people, mechanics and other car nuts do NOT get a Range Rover. I had my eye on one for years and thanks to the insight of others have steered myself in another direction.
I am also shopping for a new SUV (DH said that could be my Christmas gift). I have had my eye on the Infiniti QX56 or the QX80. They are quite large but then again I currently drive a Durango (and love it). The reason I am leaning towards Infiniti versus Lexus, Audi or BMW is that they are quite reliable and reasonable in price to repair. My Darling Husband has an Infiniti G37 and loves it.
It seems that you have a combo of luxury and non-luxury. What do you prefer?

I drive a Murano and I love it! But I’ve got my eye on my next car, which is going to be a Volvo XC60. They are beautiful, comfortable, good on gas and were rated the safest SUV in the US.

I would choose the Honda Pilot, seats 7 passengers. The price is also a low-cost point. I believe I got mine 4For 35 out the door

You should look at honda cr-v… It has high ratings and Hondas I feel last forever(which is important to me) plus they are cute!

Oh! What about the Volvo XC90? I love those, too!

@2013septemberbride: I love the Nissan Murano too! We got it as a rental once on vacation and I didn’t want to give it back lol
Also, my friend just got the Acura MDX and she loooves it! Its also awesome cuz it has a secret seat in the wayyy back you can pop open for kids and etc!
Not sure how long you plan to keep this baby for but it was a life saver to her – stylish and great MPG and practicality!

@vermonster: That and the insurance fee must be crazy high on those! My sister has a Honda CRV, so it’s not new to me lol!! I want new!!!
@Sea_Ashley: I’ll have to see if the 2014 model does that, cause I would hate the trunk like that, I like for it to open up not sideways! thanks for the input!

- Wedding: September 2013 - Pavilion at Rocky Neck State Park
Personally, I am more of a Ford and Lincoln girl. I loved driving my parents’ Navigator and Explorer. However, off the list I would go with the Toyota
