@claireos: Since you were so involved, perhaps he wanted to keep the final product a seceret so you are still surprised a little bit?  This happened to a friend of mine, her Fiance wanted her to have a ring that she liked and he really got to know her style, but in the end, he was still choosing the ring to propose with, as tradition has it.  Either way, congratulations on the upcoming engagement!

Congrats – sounds like it will be awesome!

Not sure why it’s taking so long, though!?  I had mine made and it definitely didn’t take 2 months from design to finished product!  Once the design was settled on, he made it within the week.

I know how you feel. SO involved me in the picking out, but I am so far in the dark about exactly what its going to be and when!

I’d be willing to bet they’re exaggerating how long it will take to throw you off. Speaking from experience!

My Darling Husband did the EXACT same thing to me! We met with several jewelers and once we chose one to work with, we had a consultation with him where we dove into the details of the ring I wanted, diamond specs, price…etc. After that, my Darling Husband took everything over. He met with the jeweler to choose the exact diamond, approve the wax mold…etc and wouldn’t let me in on any of the final decisions.

I was also told it would take 2 months to make. About 1 month after we first met with the jeweler, my Darling Husband and I were supposed to run errands but he said he wanted to stay home instead. I got a little pissy with him and said “fine, I’ll just run them myself.” The next day, he proposed! He ran off to pick up the ring while I was running errands and pissed off at him! Couldn’t be mad at him after that!!

My e-ring was custom made and it took about two months from start to finish so January isn’t too far off base considering the holiday delay.

Also, my Fiance ended up altering the design slightly for a bigger center stone so don’t fret and enjoy the element of surprise he might have something awesome in store for you.

@claireos: There are several steps when having a ring custom made including the wax model review and confirmation. If you make any changes to the model it will take longer.

Oh and IF you see the wax model don’t freak out. I can’t tell you how many brides warned me it looks wierd and is hard to pictures the final product….and yet I was still bugged by it, even though it turned out perfectly.
