As per the title – with regards to your proposed running sheet, when will your formalities end / dance floor open? What time does your reception start?
For those married, did it all go according to plan? Wish it was later / earlier?
Been looking over the run sheet with the caterer & looks like 9.45pm will be when the dance floor opens -as it will be new years – i feel this is too late!
Our ceremony starts at 5.30pm, finishes at 6pm. Cocktail hour follows, guests enter the recpetion at 7pm. At it snowballs from there…
What are the Bee’s thoughts?

Doesn’t seem TOO late to open at 9:45 if you are partying through the midnight clock. But 2 hours and 45 minutes for dinner and formalities is a LONG time…. We went to a wedding a few weeks back that started at 4, I don’t think they got done with all the rituals until probably 8 and by then I felt like it should be midnight.
Their ceremony was probably 40 minutes long, then probably hour long or more cocktail hour. Then they did the following rituals: Speeches, all unprepared, probably 10 freaking speeches. Father daughter dance, mother son dance, couples dance, bouquet toss, dollar dance, cake cutting… i thought the rituals would never end.
Our ceremony was at 5:30. Cocktail hour from 6-6:45, then we sat down and toasted (only three toasts) I belive we all got dinner at 7:15 ish. After dinner we did our f/d, m/s dance, then started dancing, and somewhere in the middle of that we cut cake. We didn’t do dollar dances, bouquet or garter tossing etc…. I think we danced from 8-10, then we did a chinese lantern send off, one last dance, and then the wedding ended at 10:30

Probably around 8:30 for us.
Cocktail hour 5:30 – 6:30, and then a plated dinner. We have until 1am.

i really don’t want to bore our guests to death – unsure who / what i can change – awaiting to hear back from the venue / caterer to see if they have any ideas.
we have until 12:30 if that makes a difference
Our proposed running sheet is as follows;
5.30pm ceremony start time
6pm cocktail hour / bridal photos
7pm – guests enter to seafood set on the table
7.15pm – bridal couple enter
7.30pm – seafood to be cleared. 1st set of speeches starting (x2-FOG & FOB)
7.45pm – 8pm – speeches end. banquet to be served
8.45pm – 9pm – banquet to be cleared. 2nd set of speeches. (x2 BestMan & Groom)
9:15pm – 9.30pm – speeches end / cake cutting / first dance
9.45pm – dance floor open
10pm – cake platters to be placed on tables (these are then left until the end of the night)
10.30pm ? – ham & condiments brought out
12am – balloon drop
12:30 end of night

I didn’t add that it takes 1 hr to serve, eat & clear the banquet –
And 30mins for the seafood at the beginning –

- Wedding: October 2021 - Wyckoff, NJ
Our dance floor was open after about our 30 minutes of formalities (first dance, parents, dance, speeches) and was packed for the next 3 1/2 hours. I think it depends on your DJ and your crowd.
This was after a 15 minute ceremony & 1.5 hour cocktail hour. More than half our guests went back to the hotel and we shut the bar down at 4 a.m. 🙂

@Nic01: Hmm..9:30 seems late to me but when I am at a wedding I like to dance, however I see that you are having a late ceremony so it may be hard to change it. We have about 9 months til our wedding so this timeline could very easily change but as of now I have it going like this:
2:30pm: Receiving Line (Cocktail Hour begins)
3:00pm: Family Photos
3:30pm: Bridal Party Photos
5:00pm: Reception begins – entrance and dances (First, Father, Mother)
5:30pm: Dinner served (Buffet).
Some of our areas are pretty tight, but we only have until midnight so I wanted the party to start ASAP, and I figure this leaves some room for if things (like dinner, or speeches) go over their “allotted” time. Hope this helps!

party animals! i’m hoping i don’t fall asleep by 11pm 🙂
thanks for sharing – i can see that our problem is the late ceremony – i WISH i realised this say…6 months ago??
And this morning i thought of how nice it would be should i make a speech. More time taken up. *sad face* not sure what to do…
