zugarplum:  We’re going with the very early leave of 8:00pm. In my time that’ll be sunset. The main reason: a lot of our crowd are older and not dancers. We’re also having a weekday wedding are purposefully trying not to keep people out too late. And, we’ve got plenty to do before we leave for the honeymoon so we’ll be busy!

Our last dance is at 10:30pm.  If guests still want to party, there is a lounge nearby at the hotel that stays open very late.  We don’t plan on going to the lounge really, maybe for one drink to show our newlywed selves off, but I bet we will be pretty tired by that time.

Our getaway car is supposed to arrive at 9:45 to whisk us away.  But our venue is a lodge that is sometimes used for a B&B and we have it rented from Friday-Sunday and our friends are all staying there.  I am betting that the party continues into the wee hours even after we are gone.  It makes me happy that our friends will be about to stay up as late as they want, even after we leave.

Our reception starts at 5.30pm and finishes at 10.30pm.  Then after that it’s straight up to our hotel suite with my new husband! 🙂  The only time we could get with our priest is 11am in the morning at the church so I think our guests will be fairly exhausted by then.  If guests choose to continue to party after that then that’s up to them.

Our horse and carriage whisks us from the reception to the wedding night hotel at 9 PM! After that…well…we’re both waiting for marriage, so we plan on jumping each other and then getting up bright and early for our honeymoon flight. Hah!

We have the reception venue till 10pm, but I’m sort of hoping everyone’s leaving by 9:30.

I imagine I’ll want to just pass out. I think it’s sweet that you’re thinking of extending your time just for your guests, but I don’t really think there’s a need unless you know your friends/family are major partiers.

Mine ended at 9:30. Most of the bridal party and guests went out to karaoke afterwards, but I was exhausted, so DH and I went back to the hotel, took a shower, and went straight to bed, haha!

Ours is a private property so there is no hard end time but I’ll organise the majority of the shuttles at midnight

Our reception ended when it ended… some people stuck around to chat awhile, others didn’t.  Probably 10:30ish.  I don’t understand the need to leave a party to go party, so an afterparty would have been silly for us.  when people are already spending so much money on the wedding/reception, why spend even more?  Plus you’ll probably be exhausted.  All I wanted to do was sleep for the next week, which I was completely unable to do.

Our last dance was at 1:30 AM, and everyone was cleared out by about 2:00 AM. We went straight to our hotel afterwards.

Until I came to the Bee I’d never heard of a wedding ending before midnight, or people having an afterparty! That’s just not something people do here. I’ve never left a wedding reception before midnight,  they last all evening with lots of drinking,  dancing, eating (in addition to supper there’s always a late lunch served, usually simple cold cuts, buns, veggies, etc), and visiting. No need for an afterparty here!

Ours was to be a standard 5 hour from 6-11pm but we extended it to 12 and tbh I could’ve still kept going afterwards, you’re just running on so much adrenaline that you can’t sleep anyway. Once we got home though, got texts from friends still partying but once I got out of the dress and showered I couldn’t be bothered going out again.

zugarplum:  we had our ceremony at 5:15, reception from 6-11:15ish (it was supposed to end at 10:30 but our djs kept going). We went barhopping with our friends/bridal party and my husband and I left the bar around 1:30. Most stayed till closing time (2) and some people told me they were at iHop with other random guests at 4:30 that night.

Our reception ended at midnight, and my husband and I left around 11.45. We just went to our suite and had a bath and then sat around for a bit before going to bed. I hadn’t slept much the previous night, so I was too tired to do much.

We had arranged an afterparty at a local club, and our siblings, my MOHs and some other guests went there. As it turns out, my siblings and some of my cousins (all in their late 30s and early 40s) had gone on to have their own private after-after party and were at it till 6 a.m. the following morning 😀
