I struggles with this too and in the end we talked to our wedding hotel to use their restaurant/bar as an after party spot. They are giving us specials on drinks and control of the music if we want. I figure that way people can stay up as late or early as they want.

zugarplum:  Ours ends at 11 but there is a bar where our reception is that’s open until 1am. Fiance’ and I are considering living it up since it is our wedding day! 🙂 My concern is that we’ll be super crabby the next morning – when we have to rush for our honeymoon. Eep.

It’s interesting to se how different wedding schedules are in the US compared to Europe, I had no idea wedding usually ends before midnight over there. I have been to wedding in many different European countries and all have ended way past midnight.

Ours will end at 1am, so we’re going to bed after!

I honestly never heard of weddings ending so early until I went to one in California that ended at 9pm (my Fiance and I are both canadian). We were so shocked, we were like “that’s it? where’s the rest” but people went out to the bar after. Where we are from wedding don’t end before midnight, and the ones I have been to in Ireland go into the wee hours of the morning. Ours is ending at 1am with everyone out by 1:30. Fiance and I will probably leave by 12:30 and head back to our amazing hotel suite and relax in the hotub with some bubbly!

Our reception ended at 11pm, and we went to a vaudeville themed nightclub afterwards for our afterparty. Walking in the city streets in our wedding attire was surreal, we got so many “congratulations” from passers by on the streets. It was one of my favorite parts of our wedding day!

Our wedding ended at 11pm. For us, we actually had a decent amount of people leave between 10-11pm. I think that is because we had the “Catholic gap” and everyone was just too drunk at the end of the night due to the 2 hour “pit stop” at the hotel bar before the reception, haha. There definitely were some people that continued the party at bars after the wedding though.

My DH wanted to plan an afterparty SO bad. I told him let’s just play by ear and we can go somewhere if we want to. We ended up not wanting to go anywhere but home! Sooooo exhausted.

zugarplum:  Our reception ended at midnight. Husband and I went to the hotel room and had some fun, then put on some clothes and went down by the pool where everyone was hanging out and were there until 3:30 or so and still left people down there. Even had a case of beer and handle of vodka left over from the reception there.

I was always, anti-going out after. I said we’d be too tired, I wanted it to be more about us, etc.. but it was a lot of fun and I feel like we got the best of both.

Ours will end at 10:30/11ish, but like others have posted, we’ll be staying at a hotel downtown, and there’s clubs/bars everywhere so I’m sure others, if not ourselves even, will do a little after party!

zugarplum:  This is kind of my dilema too. My wedding is also a Sunday, and it’s the week before daylight savings starts so we’re starting at 5PM. I want it to still be daylight during the ceremony because it’s outside (sunset is at 6:30 that day). But that ends the reception around 10! That feels so early.

So far we have no plans for an after-party but I’m open to one if it spontaneously evolves into one at the hotel. We’re encouraging even our local guests (especially wedding party) to come hang out at the pool and go out with us and stay at the resort the night before, so I’m not sure people will be up for an after-party. Besides, some people may not be planning to take Monday off from work, so again I feel like I’d be asking too much to plan an after-party. And we’ll probably be exhausted! But we’ll see how it goes. I just hope no one is like “so early??” when we wrap up.

Mine is ending at 11:30, and my fiance and I will be going back to the hotel immediately after.  No hanging wround more with people for an after party.

zugarplum:  I got married on NYE and started at 8 so that the party went til 1 am. I would have loved to extend until 2 but money hindered that plan! Everyone shuttled back to the hotel and partied in the lobby until 5 am! It was a BLAST! I’m actually glad we did that 🙂

We are doing ours on a ship, so it ends at 3pm. We will go take pictures while our sailing guests settle in. We will see them at dinner…but then they are on their own for the night. They can go to the nightclub, etc. We will hang out with them informally for the next few days.

Ours will end quite late at 2am so I imagine back to the hotel to ZZZzzz.

    Our ceremony begins at 8pm and then PARTY 830 – 2 😀
