The wedding is July 23rd of next year and it is outdoors.
We are having a cocktail and cake reception with dancing of course
and I’m having trouble picking the exact time
I was think 8:30 because the sunsets at 8:40 and it doesn’t really get dark until after 9
but I almost worry that will be too late but it will be much cooler this way..

8:30 is a really late time for a ceremony, but I guess if you are doing cocktails and cake it could be okay. You just need to make sure that people know to eat dinner beforehand because most people expect to eat a meal when they go to a wedding.
Another option is that you could do an earlier ceremony and then just take a break to go take pictures during sunset. That is what Fiance and I are doing because our ceremony starts at 6.

I think that would be great.. esp since you’re doing it like right at sunset and outdoors =)
I would just put “hor’douvres to follow” or something like that….. cocktails and hor’dourves are becoming pretty popular these days rather than a full “dinner reception”

There was another bride on this board who considered doing a split ceremony. Perhaps you can do the same? Check out the rough timeline below…
5:00 – Coctail hour
6:00 – Bridal party makes their grand entrance (music somewhat upbeat)
6:15 – Speaches / toasts
6:30 – Sit down dinner
7:30 – MC calls for guests to be seated for ceremony
8:00 – Ceremony starts
8:40 – First dance (try to time it at sunset for some GORGEOUS pictures)
9:00 – Push through the garter toss and everything else before it gets too late
Midnight – Wrap things up
If you don’t want a sit down dinner, then start the coctail hour at 6:30 and serve hors’dourves until 7:30. I hope that helps get the creative juices flowing!
