I am in the process of booking my DJ and need to know what time he should start playing music. My ceremony starts at 5 and will only be about 15 min. The reception is located inside at the same location. We can only afford him for 4 hours so I didn’t want to start to early.
About 60% of our guests are only invited to the reception so I also need to figure out what time I should invite them. We are serving hor’dourves while we are getting are pictures taken.
I am so lost on this whole wedding planning thing… can anyone help?

Ask if your DJ will set up the day before and allow you to plug in an ipod during the dinner and things of that nature for backround music. How long are you planning on taking pictures/cocktail hour to take? Also what type of meal will you be serving? Do you expect lots of time dedicated to speaches? Ive seen dinners last for 1 hour to over 3 hours.

I just e-mailed my photographer to see how long it will take. I was hoping we could do a first look and get most of the photos done before the ceremony, but my Fiance wants to stay traditional. We are having a buffet style dinner for about 50-75 ppl. The speeches total will probably only be 10-15 min. I was thinking to have the reception from 6-10. We only have the venue till 11 and have to clean up everything.

Our DJ is starting at 7pm and will continue through 11pm (the end of our reception.) We have a harpist playing our ceremony and cocktail hour.

Usually, there is an hour between the end of ceremony and the start of the reception for a one-sire wedding. The DJ needs to be ready to go when the reception starts. So, do the math.
