I would wear a dress as it is likely to be cooler than dress pants anyhow.

I would stay away from the traditional gifts- leave those for family. I would get the baby a gift of a share of stock. You can chosse a compant that is child related or something that relates to the couple’s interests.

I’ve only been to one baptism and I wore a casual dress and heels. Darling Husband wore a short sleeve button up shirt and black slacks.

We kind of failed in the gift department. The baptism was for a little boy and we had no clue what to get as a gift, so we… got nothing. Embarassed His parents still like us, fortunately!

@shinythingsrule:  I was at work so I couldn’t respond till now.

I don’t buy the frames etc. I  use my own. As you have discovered, for a last minute gift you can print out your own stock certificate, then forward them the one you get in the mail.

We attended our friends daughters commitment ceremony last year (kinda like a baptism in their religion). I wore black dress pants and a nice top and Darling Husband wore khakis and a button down (no tie but their church is very casual… it has a Starbucks in it!). As for the gift, we gave a savings bond but I hear those are a huge pain to get now. Their youngest will be “committed” (I think that’s what they call it) in a few months and we’ll probably just give a card with $50 to somewhat match the savings bond that we got their oldest for hers.

Dress pants would be fine if thats what you prefer.  I always give a $50 savings bond for baptisms.  However, they are not as popular or mature like they used to.
