I booked my ceremony/reception venue about 8 months ago. I am going for a very “vintage” feel wedding and wanted a venue that would reflect that. I luckily found a beautiful space near my hometown and fell in love. The only downside was that the ceremony had to be outside…in june…in Florida.
I set the wedding ceremony to be at 5:30 in the evening, when the sun is going down and things are a little cooler. However, the last week here in FL has been a nightmare. It is incredibly hot (heat index of 105) and to top it all off, I have skin issues that cause my eczema to misbehave in the heat.
I get a call from my mother today explaining that she thinks we should change the venue because my hair will fall, my makeup will be a sweaty mess, and my skin a disaster.
Now I’m incredibly upset. What am I going to/should do????

Do you have a backup plan in case of rain? You can always just resort to that option.

Wait… what? How can you change your venue? Aren’t you getting married next week?

Whoa!!!!! That’s really close! All I can say is find a rain location or just tough it out! Maybe a wedding tent?

could you still keep your reception there and just have the ceremony elsewhere? it sounds like your reception is inside, yes?

The reception is inside, yes.
I told her she was crazy for asking me to change so soon and for filling my head with worries of being the “melting” bride!!!
With Florida rain, it usually only lasts for 15 minutes and then it’s over. But I think she’s more worried about the heat.
The ceremony is only 30 minutes long, but she INSISTS that I’m not going to have nice pictures because of what the heat will do to me.

How long is your ceremony going to be? If it’s only like 10-20 minutes, I think that you’ll be fine (although guests might get hot since they’ll likely arrive before you and have to wait).
I agree with @mcnetn3 – go with your backup rain location (unless you don’t have one, haha). Is it possible to have the ceremony inside where the reception is? Or is there a gazebo anywhere where you and the groom could be?

I’d say don’t panic yet – you still have a week. The heat could break and it could be perfectly lovely. Tell your mom that you’ll make your decision regarding the ceremony next Wednesday when the forecast is more reliable.

can you do something to keep cool? for you and the guests, like have ice water or cold water bottles available. As long as it is a short ceremony people will survive 🙂 and are you having your makeup done by a pro? they will know how to set it!

I had a ceremony outside in incredibly warm and humid weather, and it was not a problem.
With the right makeup and hairdo, you will not notice a thing in pictures; and there’s too much going on in your head, the excitement and all, you do not notice the temperature, trust me.
It will all be ok; and the ceremony is not that long, then you’ll be inside for the reception.
