I would say to go for the ring you like if you really hate the other one, is a nice gesture, be sure to be thankfull and respectfull when explaining your decision not to take it.

@lsimpson:  +1 it makes no sense to have a ring you feel mad about on your fiinger. It takes away from the sentiment. Also you not being a spoilt brat you just changed you mind, like many women do, and have fallen in love with a ring in a shop. Im sure your Future Mother-In-Law will understand.

I think you should definitely go with the ring that will make you happier. You have to wear it and it has to feel special to you. I’m sure if you thank your Future Mother-In-Law for the lovely offer but decline respectfully, she will be understanding.
