I think it would be fine either way. I wouldn’t think it was weird without music, but I also wouldn’t think anything of it if the music went back to the violin after your recessional song was over.

I think you can do without the postlude music – I think most people will be so excited and happy for you that, like you said, they’ll be really chatty. I know I’ve been to weddings where they’ve had postlude music and I can probably tell you what the recessional was but not the postlude.

we’re not having postlude music. we’re getting married in a botanical garden, so after the recessional I’m hoping that the guests will spend some time walking through the rest of the gardens rater than hanging about listening to postlude music – we have limited amount of time to clean up after the ceremony because there is another wedding at my venue later that afternoon so we have to be cleared out in time for them to set up.
