I’ve visited there a few times and LOVED going to the Met, MoMA, the Natural History Museum, and the Guggenheim.  It’s also great to just wander around Central Park.  And eat pizza! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’d go to the Tenement Museum. It’s fascinating to learn about the immigrants who built NYC and the rest of the USA, and to see the really horrid conditions in which they lived and worked.  Then nip over to Chinatown for a late lunch and candy shopping. There are some candy stores there that get all the Chinese and Japanese candies and snacks, totally fun and delicious!

I really like the Museum of Natural History, and you could go to Central Park after.  Or Botanical Gardens if you’re into that kind of thing?  Bronx Zoo or Central Park Zoo?  Coney Island?  It won’t be crowded on a weekday and you can go to the aquarium!  If you want to go shopping, you could hit SoHo, which is much less crowded on a weekday.

@StL.Ashley:

I see you’re already doing MOMA. Yes, museum of natural history is totally worth it.

The Strand bookstore is one of my favorite stops, and La Casita in Brooklyn, if you’ve got the time (it’s a yarn store, but they have a little cafe and delicious empanadas — way better than Starbucks. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have absolutely no idea if they have pandas but the New York Aquarium in Coney Island is FANTASTIC.  I can’t believe I haven’t been this year.

I also second PP’s suggestion of Tentement Museum. That’s on my list of things to do.

Yeah, it’s like an hour.  But if you’ve got the whole day to kill, you can do it in the morning or the afternoon.  (I’m on the UES too)  I’m kinda biased because I think Coney Island is just such a cool spot in NY that no one ever gets to see.  And it’s always nice to take a walk on the beach!

But like I said, Museum of Natural History, Tenement Museum, etc. are all cool stops as well!

Unfortunately I spend most of my time in classes, but after a long, exhausting day I love getting a soy pumpkin spice latte and walking around Battery Park. I also LOVE the Hummus Place omnoms, particularly if you have a food allergy/restrictions. As others have stated, the Museum is well worth it and SoHo can be fun ๐Ÿ™‚

@StL.Ashley:

Get in a cab and go to SoHo. Best shopping ever, and they have cute wine bars and cafes everywhere so if you get parched you can do a martini pit stop. They also have nail salons there for a mid-afternoon mani/pedi.
