As someone who is an “older mom” and is on their third pregnancy (at nearly 40)-I’d suggest you enjoy yourself. Of course pay attention, and if you’re not getting pregnant in a couple of months, then dig in a little, but your pregnancy will be filled with things you can/cannot do, should/should not do- I wouldn’t make life altering changes at this point. Drink the coffee, drink the wine, take care of your body, eat whatever you want, you do you and have fun- especially as you work on your wedding. Sure, take some prenatals if you like or start tracking your cycles- heck, even buy some home pregnancy tests or ovulation tests. But honestly, enjoy this time and don’t stress about it. Congratulations!

We won’t TTC for awhile, but I asked my CNM at my last appointment (she’s not a stickler for the “come in every 12 months on the dot” way of thinking) what I should be doing 12-18 or so months out, and she gave me some great information. She told me to get solidly in the middle of a healthy weight range (I’m at the top of my healthy weight range/just over, depending on the day), keep exercising, start taking vitamins, and to have fun/accomplish personal things I’ve wanted to do.

I thought that the last bit was really nice, and I’ve created my own list of things I’d like to do that are totally unrelated to a baby. So, that’d be my answer…focus on yourself and your hobbies! Enjoy your last bit of being selfish. I want to run 1-2 marathons, and go to Paris. I can’t imagine training for a marathon with a tiny baby, and Paris would be AWFUL without all the wine and soft cheeses. I also have a few practical to-dos, like paying off the last of my non-student-loan debt and getting a new car.

krm1984 :  Hi OP! I just came across this board googling TTC stuff and was curious how your pre-fertility appointment went and if you’d recommend it? I’m in the exact same boat (just turned 35 and FH is 33, getting married in Oct, FH and I fully on-board to TTC immediately after the wedding and so excited about it!!).

krm1984 :  Also curious how your appointment went and what you’ve done to prepare for TTC. Fi and I are in a similar boat as you,  robinsparkles4! We’re getting married end of Nov, I’ll be 35, he’ll be 32. We’re going to TTC shortly after the wedding, we’ve agreed to stop BC pills right after they honeymoon. I would stop sooner but my period is going to hit the first day of our honeymoon so I’m going to take my pills back to back so I skip it (or most of it at least)

Charliejeorge :

Exciting! I ran anxious and removed my IUD back in May.  Figured I would give my body 6 months to adjust, but am realizing that may have been excessive. I’m slated to get my period on the wedding day (ugh) but que sera sera

robinsparkles4 : Ugh, that’s annoying! That knix underwear might be perfect for that! I actaully had my IUD taken out a few months ago because I was tired of the side effects. And it’s a dang good thing because the one I had was taken off the market for poor effectivemeness after the first year. I know a girl whos having a baby because of it!
