@Nic01:  Today! It can’t hurt anything. Are you on hormonal BC at this time or using condoms?

I went to the doctor and talked to him about my plans. He ran a bunch of tests to make sure all of my levels were normal and there would be no risks involved. This was a year+ out so I had time to make life style changes in necessary. Luckily all I need to do is eat healthier and try to drop a few pounds, but if I don’t make sure I limit my weight gain during pregnancy.

However, I think talking to your GP about this and getting tests run to make sure all systems are go would be a good idea!

Start charting your menstrual cycle if you haven’t already, just so you have a better idea of when you may be ovulating and how long your cycle typically is. Other than that, get healthy and start a prenatal vitamin when you start TTC (I started prenatals the month we started trying, but ideally, I would have started a month before that or so). Doctors offer pre-conception counseling, too, if you are interested.

@Nic01:  hahah ๐Ÿ™‚ if you are just using condoms, consider reading taking charge of your fertility. It teaches you about charting and you may want to do that for a few cycles so you know if Nd when you are ovulating ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh and “they” (American pregnancy association) recommend all women of childbearing age should take a vitamin with at least 400 mg of folic acid ( some regular vitamins have that much ). But generally you should begin taking a prenatal 3 months before conceiving. The reason is because folic acid is important for a developing neural tube and the most critical time for development is in the first 28 days of life.

Start taking prenatal vitamins, you can buy over the counter. Get nutrients and folic acid now to prepare body. My OBGYN prescribed me and advise I take 6 months before TTC. Also she gave me an idea of when I ovulate. Example….you can estimate when is best time TTC. Go to http://www.babycenter.com/ovulation-calculator

Also any dental work that needs to get done, do it now before getting pregnant ๐Ÿ™‚

That information was given to me months ago. now hubby and I just found last week, we are expecting.

+1 to everyone who said prenatal vitamins, charting your cycles, and reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I had some regular and some crazy long cycles after going off BCP (then using condoms after) and I found that charting/temping helped me figure out what was going on with me, when I ovulated, and when I’m getting my next period.

I also started eating better, exercising, and taking fish oil and calcium supplements. It might just be luck, but I got pregnant once I became consistent with my workouts!

Yes, saving money is always a plus, baby or no baby!
