Gift card and a bottle of wine. Don’t know why you made this about whether you should get an actual gift when you had clearly made up your mind but there are lots of good ideas in this thread!

Honestly I think you’re making a bigger deal out of this than it has to be. I think it’s really thoughtful you’re trying so hard to come up with the perfect gift but at some point if this person is really as hard to buy for as you say they are – just give the gift card or pick out something else and give it to them. If they don’t use it, they can donate it or give it to someone else. Don’t stress yourself out over it. I also would not return the rest of the gifts, because the rest of the family shouldn’t be punished because one siblings is a wet blanket with no interests.

I think a gift card would be fine, but if you want to do a physical gift, check out the New York Times gift shop or the Newseum gift shop (both have websites) – they have good gifts to that personality type, in my opinion.

I think it’s fine to give a gift card as a last resort in this situation. I’m sure that if all of those things can’t work, that he/she knows that they’re difficult to buy a gift for. Just try to find a way to show that a lot of thought went into it, because it’s not like you didn’t try!

curiouscat2017 :  What is the photography of? If it is of nature, a yearly state park pass is fantastic. We love ours!

I love photography and have equipment too. I would like a gift card to B&H they have all sorts of photog stuff and are well known (based in NY but i shop there online west coast). A mini camera shaped ornament to go with it with maybe a coffee mug. A book with pictures from his favorite photographer. A nice camera bag if you know the type of camera. Id love a nice lens too. Or SD cards i use so mamy. A new backup drive to backup photos. Lighting kits. Frames. Remote controlled electronic candles. Quirky books with photos. So many options.

curiouscat2017 :  Oh totally! I can tell you did put a lot of thought into it. I kind of snickered as I was reading the thread beacuse everyone kept coming up with quite good suggestions, but you’d literally already thought of each and every one of them and had thorough reasoning why it wouldn’t work.

If this whole site can’t come up with something, I think you’re pretty safe to settle with the fact that there’s no ideal gift for the situation. Gift cards are GREAT for students.

i see nothing wrong with giving an amazon gift card even if you are giving others actual gifts. it isn’t rude or anything, in fact id rather get gift cards, especially to amazon and especially if it is $50 lol!

maybe if you put it in a nice little box and wrapped it up nice it will seem more substantial to you. i would not return any gifts. just give him the gift card. it’s perfectly ok. and if he has a problem with it, you can send it to me 😛

You mentioned he or she is into photography? What about a camera strap? There are some really cute scarf straps on bloomtheory and capturingcouture, and BlackRapid makes really high quality ones that are pretty simple looking.

I think Amazon gift card is fine. I’d prefer that to an actual gift, especially when I was in college. I always begged my family to get me gift cards instead of gifts when they would ask what I wanted, but they always refused because it wasn’t “personal” ugh. Maybe throw in something small to go with the gift card, like some holiday candy, water bottle, keychain, whatever, that way they do have something to open.

curiouscat2017 :  I would not be hurt by receiving a gift card, I would be thrilled about the free $$.
