So fi was engaged about 6 or so years ago and we’ve been cleaning out the house/garage to make space for my stuff. We came across this old ring box with his ex’s ring in it and he asked me what we should do with it.
It’s not my style, a heart shaped diamond with a halo and baguettes in white gold. It’s actually my size(of course I tried it on lol)
I didnt take a pic at the time and the ring is at Fis house, but this is sort of the look of the ring (just without the halo) I believe the tcw is under .5ct, so it’s not big and would get practically nothing at a pawnshop, which is why he still has it. He tried to pawn it after they broke up and with the peanuts the pawnbroker offered, he stuck it into a drawer and didn’t think much about it.
Now i have no issue wearing his ex’s ring as an rhr(i don’t believe an object can get bad ‘mojo’) but it’s really not to my taste, so I’m trying to figure out what we should do with it. The way I see it, we have 3 options
Remake it as something else
TBH, while I wouldn’t wear a heart-shaped ring, I could totally see wearing it as a pendant. Fi says he doesn’t care, it’s been 6 years since he last saw his ex and it’s up to me what’s do with the old ring.
So what would you do?

Personally I’d sell it and put the money in savings or put it towards a vacation

I’d sell it. I’m not into heart shaped diamonds.

ooh! I like the vacation idea.

Sell it! You’d get a lot from someone with a 5ct diamond!! (Can’t believe you’re saying it’s not big 😂)
I would buy it 😅

lol, that’s a misplaced period in there. I meant half a carat or .5 fi definitely doesn’t have a 5 CT diamond sitting in a drawer. I’d look at him like he’s crazy for that.

Vote to keep it and turn it into a pendant, you might get a couple hundred bucks but not much more I’d estimate so why not use it lol diamonds suck for resale

Try a website like I do now I dont; Have you seen the ring; diamondbistro; or loupetroup. They sell engagement rings at all these.

I would probably sell it… or at least sell the heart-shaped diamond. I might buy a new setting for the baguettes and a new stone (I’ve always wanted a sapphire ring so I’d go that route!)

well, i do love my sapphire ering 🙂 fi did a good job picking it out.
I might pick the ring up from fi tomorrow. My moissanite wedding ring is being made by a custom jeweler who is also a pawn broker (yeah, I never would have thought of it if not for the reviews). They said my ring would be done by this Friday. I trust them and might ask them how much they’d offer for it.
That’s why my first thought wasn’t to sell it. I know fi spent more than 100 to 200 on it and I know it’ll bother him to sell it for so much less than he paid. We could just suck it up and sell it, but if I can find a purpose for it…
My first idea is to use the ring for weddingbee moissanite comparison photos lol. 😉 But I thought it might be a strange reason to keep it around. I do love moissanites though.

If you like it I say pendant it up!
I actually bought my own original engagement ring for the engagement with my ex because he couldn’t get me a ring at all so I have 0 problems keeping and resetting it later on. It’s just a small aquamarine so there’s 0 point in trying to sell it might as well use it in something pretty I like so it wasn’t a waste.

It’s very distinct, so if you don’t like it I would either sell it or gift it to someone who might like it (depending on the value). Check with a different pawn shop just in case.

I would take the “loss” and either give it away or sell it. I would neither want it nor wear it.

Personally I would sell it even if I didn’t get a lot for it I wouldn’t want to wear it. Tue way I see it it was a gift for someone else just get rid of it
