After a flub with reception venue #1 we moved on and found venue #2.
It is a local restauraunt in the town’s old (and nearly abandoned) mall. The party room we’re using opens out into said mall. Due to the size of this party room it’s going to be neccassary to seat some guests out in that area.
Obviously it looks like a mall out there. We’re allowed to decorate as we please so long as the paint/walls come away undamaged. I’ve tried to look at pipe and drape kits, but there are no rentals places near us (or that we can find). And to try and buy our own is crazy expensive.
So yet again I turn to the lovely ladies of the Bee! Any ideas? Or tips to DIY our own pipe and drape kits? We haven’t had a chance to take measurements of the room as the night we viewed it there was a small gathering taking place.
Anything you’ve got will be greatly appriciated! 🙂

@LadyBortles: Have you looked into any DIY’s using photo backdrop stands? They often come with clips, and can be resold very easily. Curtains or other fabric of your choice can be hung to customize your event. Check out amazon, they start at about $50, for and 8′ wide, 10′ tall backdrop.

You can section off an area of the mall with sheer drapery. You can buy these online very inexpensively.
To hang the drapes you can use pipe and drape, or you can use a variety of other options.
You can use patio umbrella bases with a tall dowel or pipe inserted and stretch a cable between the poles. You could also have a frame built across the top using a 2×2″.
You could use barrels or tubs filled with rocks to secure a post, then string a cable or build a frame on the top of the posts.
You could even rent a wedding tent and have it set up inside the mall and leave one side open to the party room.

What percent of tables will be in the mall area? Could you move them all out there? Then you don’t have to divide your guests. I would try to use intimate table lighting so the focus stays on the areas you want and the background just fades into the dark.

@Nikii_Luv: I hadn’t actually; I’ll checkout that link! 🙂 I don’t know how many we would need or what that would cost us in the long run as compared to building our own or (if we could find a vendor) renting.
@julies1949: I never thought of using patio stands like that! Same with renting the tent! I’ll definitely look at those options! 🙂
@JenGirl: I’m not sure. But from looking at it I don’t feel like we’ll have any other choice 🙁 (I don’t like it; but this was seriously a last resort. We’ve had so many issues finding an open reception venue it isn’t even funny)
I wish I had been able to take pictures so I could show you all what I mean. I could try to describe it but it was sound a lot more awful than it truly is. Lol.
