Different OBs do different things, so I would call and ask. We didn’t have an ultrasound until the 12 week apt. They might try to hear the heartbeat. They might just do an exam. Like I said, I would call and make sure what’s going to happen so he doesn’t miss out on anything.

Well all I can say is that… hmm its been a while.. But I think around ten weeks you get a good ultrasound a see a very tiny baby.. not just the mass anymore more tadpole looking (thats what I used to call my son before he was born..tadpole) I was about 4 months along when They told us the gender of the baby. But its really your preference if he is there or not. My Fiance wanted to and did come to all of my appointments so he could see the baby move etc.

I just got back from my 9 wk apt – I didn’t have a physical exam, but we got to hear the heartbeat using a doppler. My dr said our next u/s won’t be until 20 wks so I think every dr does things a little differently.

My Darling Husband went.  We had an US and saw the heart flicker.  Plus, I’m a wuss when it comes to blood draws, so he drove and held my hand.  😀

Is this your first appt? If so, they’ll probably do a pap (if you’re due) and send you for blood tests. They also usually will do a U/S to determine your due date.

If it’s your second appt, they’ll probably just make you pee in a cup, check the heartbeat and ask how your feeling (really nothing too exciting). Most of my appts were pretty boring and consisted of those three steps until our 20 week – where they did the U/S to determine the sex. Then it went back to that routine till around 32 weeks where we started getting into delivery conversations.

My husband has come to all but two appts even tho there wasn’t much “going on” – mostly it was a good time for us to ask questions (and sometimes he would think of questions I didn’t)

Id ask if they are doing an u/s and bring Darling Husband with you.  At 10 weeks, our peanut looked like an actual baby (this pic below was from our 10wk u/s)

At my 10 week appointment my Darling Husband was out of town on business but my mom came up and went with me 🙂 It was a regular gyno appointment but we also got a 10 week ultrasound which was a vaginal u/s. It was amazing! Congratulations!! 🙂

I’m going for my first pre-natal appointment on Monday, and they told me they would do an Ultrasound there.

I wanted Fiance to come to it becuase it was the first time we’d hear the heartbeat…super exciting!

She only did the ultrasound where you can hear the heartbeat rather than see it, but she couldn’t find it. Then she brought in the other machine to see if she could visually find it — which she did! Scary couple of moments but she said that’s very common in those first weeks because the heartbeat is below your pelvic bone.

My first appointment was at 11w4d. They did a PAP & a transvaginal ultrasound. I would definitely call and ask. I think your Darling Husband would want to be there to hear the heartbeat and see the baby. You could definitely tell it was a baby for our first appt.

My husband didn’t come to my 12 week US and it was the biggest mistake! That was when the baby actually looked like a baby, and moved and we were both so dissapointed he missed it – after that he never missed another appointment since I never knew what was going to happen at any given one.  You could call to see if you are going to have an US I suppose??  Or hear the heartbeat? Both are worth the trip!
