I have my first appt this Tuesday and I will be 7 weeks and 4 days 😊. Just wondering what I should expect to see in the first ultrasound. I know I am still early and usually they don’t do appt till 8-9 weeks.

You should be able to see a heartbeat at 7 weeks if they do a transvaginal ultrasound! good luck!!

This first appointment and the 20 week ultrasound are the ones that you will want DH to attend with you. They will be a lot longer than monthly(usually those are less than 15 minutes with the doc, no vaginal exam, listen to baby’s heart) visits and are great milestones to share.
Btw make sure not to pee before going! Dropping a specimen is standard procedure for each appointment.

It depends on the machinery in the office. If they only have abdominal u/s machines, you will probably see a sack, but likely not see a heartbeat. If they have t/v machines, you’ll be able to see the heartbeat and the outline of your alien.

my first appt was 7 weeks 5 days. For the ultrasound we saw the yolk sac, the baby, and the heartbeat fluttering! We also heard the heartbeat. After my ultrasound my doctor did a regular exam and Pap smear. She also discussed some things I should and shouldn’t do.

It depends on the machine. Some ultrasounds (the old crappy ones) will show a blob and others will show a clearly defined, kidney bean sized object. Nothing like a baby at all. The exciting thing is that you can hear the heartbeat and get the baby measured to see if they are on track.

I see my doc for the first time at 9weeks, tomorrow. His office told me that the first visit is purely a confirmation visit and exam. They’ll do a pee test and take a pap. I’m not terribly thrilled about that, I wish they’d do more. They said they usually order an US for the following week to confirm age, and then follow up with the first “real” appointment another week later to go over history and everything. That means I won’t “really” be seeing a doc until I’m 11wks along.. Except we leave for italy in two weeks and more likely I won’t get in until after we come back when I’ll be 14 weeks along. I’m going to be pushy and argue to get him to take my history and talk at this first “confirmation” appointment. I don’t want to wait that long!

Did they tell you they were going to do an ultrasound? If they do, by 7 weeks you should be able to see the gestational sac with yolk sac and fetal pole, potentially a heartbeat. That would be if it’s a transvaginal. It’s tough to see much this early on an abdominal ultrasound. My office sees pts at 6 weeks but it’s just for bloodwork and they give a packet outlining what to expect, dos and don’ts and answer any questions you may have. First ultrasound is an informal one at 10 weeks.

We had an ultrasound at 6+6 and saw the heartbeat. The first time I went to my doctor after I found out she just sent me for a bunch of bloodwork and referred me to my OB. The only reason she sent me for an ultrasound was because my cycles are irregular and I was pretty sure I ovulated a week late, so she wanted to confirm my due date.

At my 7 week ultrasound (i was about exactly 7 weeks) you could clearly see 3 little kidney beans with hearts pumping away, you could see their inner and outter sacs and everything. I had both an internal and external ultrasound.

Thanks everyone! I am scare and excited at the same time. My husband won’t be able to make the appt. Originally we thought he was going to be able to leave work early but he has an important training that he can’t miss. I told him that I would try to reschedule but he insisted for me to go because he wants to make sure everything is ok with the little peanut. They did tell me they would do a vaginal ultrasound :). Really bummed my husband won’t be able to come 🙁 sometimes I hate his job.
