Alright guys, tomorrow is my first ultrasound appt to hear the heartbeat! I believe I am into my 9th week now.
What should I expect? Will it be a long appt or short appt? Do you know if it’ll be an ultrasound on my belly or if they have use the probe…?

@Diamondgurl: It really depends on your doctor. I had an u/s at 8 weeks, and it looked like nothing honesty. She also wasn’t able to find a heart beat with the doppler, so don’t freak out if you can’t hear a heart beat.
They may do a vaginal u/s just because they would get a better picture. The only reason I had an u/s that early was to see if I was having twins or not.

At 9 weeks it will most likely be transvaginal.

@Diamondgurl: I had my first U/S at 7 weeks, it was to confirm the date. It was already on my belly, that ‘far’ along they should be able to locate your baby form the belly without going inside… (i also hated it).
You will see a little bean, a little amazing bean with a white flickering thing: his heart :-). You probably won’t hear the heart, you will see it.

I think it really depends. Im in New Zealand and had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks for dates and it was abdominal. Transvaginal ultrasounds are quite rare here. Turned out I was only 5w6d and there was a clear as crystal heartbeat. The appointment was very short though, they measured the little bean and took a short recording of the HB and gave me a date and that was about it.

I would say, expect to be overjoyed. 🙂
I had a vaginal ultrasound at about 8weeks, and we saw a little bean- and saw AND heard the heartbeat. It was amazing.
I hope you have a wonderful experience tomorrow.

My first appointment, which included my first ultrasound, was at 6 weeks. My midwife does them that early to try and confirm a “viable” pregnancy and just for reassurance for anxious moms. The ultrasound part took ~15 minutes, I think. Mine was 2D with a transvaginal wand. I honestly didn’t think it felt any worse than a tampon, except this tampon moved around a little, heh. My baby looked like two marbles sitting on top of each other. I didn’t get to hear the heartbeat at mine, but I did get to see it–part of one of the little circles was pulsating, and that was the heart. Good luck!

At 9 weeks it will probably not be on your belly, but I’ve heard some doing it on the belly. I had my first at 6.5 weeks and the another at almost 9 weeks. It really just looks like a big blob at first. You might see the baby moving around, which is good. You also might get overwhelmed by the heartbeat. I know we did!

I had my U/S at 8 weeks, it was transvaginal (no big deal). I could clearly see the baby and the heartbeat. It wasn’t just a blob, it was starting to look baby like. It was a great feeling!

Relief! Saw the little bean today with a nice, strong heart rate! Now I can relax before my next appt 😉

Are you in your 9th week, so 8 weeks pregnant?
You will likely hear the heartbeat at this point! I did at 6+2. My doctor thought I was a week farther then I thought I was (and then I actually ended up being!) They tried the regular belly ultrasound, but down VERY VERY low, below my underwear line. They couldn’t get a picture that way since the baby was too small so it ended up being a vaginal ultrasound.
in order these are 6w2d, 13w1d, 19w5d

@emmos: Yes I am 8 wks and a few days. Was confused because my birth predictor said I was into my 9th week but I think I finally get it now lol Next ultrasound should be around wk 12

@Diamondgurl: What type of u/s did it end up being?
@NLbride: Transvaginal – it was ok though, only went in about an inch or two and was quite thin. I’ve taken way more than that lol
I did not hear the heartbeat but saw the flickering and the moniter calculated the heartbeat.

@Diamondgurl: Interesting. I’m about as far along as you are, and I have my first u/s tomorrow. I assume it will be abdominal because they gave me instructions to drink all kinds of water. I’m hoping they don’t have trouble seeing something!
