@MsMindle:  Oohh, the Wedding Day candle made me remember – there’s wedding cake VODKA! I’d love that as a shower gift.

Three gifts I use in this situation:

1) a big mixing bowl with lots of cute cookie cutters, a rolling pin, and my favorite cookie recipies (or a couple mason jars with pre-made mix and instructions tied to it).

2) a pyrex carrying pan (there is a cover and then this bag that keeps your food hot or cold), it is perfect for potlucks

3) pyrex glass tupperware. Those things are amazing, make clean up a snap, and you can never have enough (especially if you pack lunch!)

I vote for a gift card. There could always be something that the bride forgot to add that she might want later on.

After returning a bunch of items and shopping for things I really wanted I have found that the gift cards were indeed the best and easiest gift overall.

You can always pick something off the registry that she might want multiples of such as an extra box of glasses or an extra platter or serving piece that matches her patterns, and then be sure to include the gift receipt, that way she can exchange it for something else later, or return it and put that money towards a larger item based on some of what others get her.

This happened to me once and I got the couple a gift card to their favorite restaurant in town. If I had to do it over again now that I’ve had my wedding, I would get them a gift card to wherever they’re registered, or depending on who it is, a gift card to Victoria’s Secret. I would have killed for one of those at my shower!

@kmarie719:  Sorry I totally thought you were talking about the wedding!! Maybe I should read the post more carefully! I think a gift card to wherever she was registered would be a great idea.

A wedding that large, with a registry that small….she’s hoping for cash or giftcards.  So give her cash or giftcards.

I’d go for something that’s there, like the pillow shams, or cash/gift card.

Remember that people can often get even better deals on their registry purchases if they are using cash or gift cards themselves (completion discounts).

I just had my bridal shower and I received a two year subscription to Cooking Light from my step-sisters.  I thought that it was the perfect simple gift!

i also say gift card. my fiance and i went to a wedding recently and found ourselves in the same situation. everything left on the registry was out of our budget, so we went for a gift card to the store where they registered.

@kmarie719:  I’m surprised she only had 35 items on her registry. BBB suggests that you take the number of guests and double it so that there are more than enough items for people to buy. I think a gift card to their favorite restaurant is a good idea.

I think the wine idea is really good, the scrapbook is very sweet and personal, and cookie cutters are also a great idea. Williams-Sonoma has some really cute sets for about $20 each. One set is little flower shapes . . . another one lets you stamp messages into the cookies …

A gift card to Sephora for all her wedding day beauty essentials, or a spa finder gift certificate would be two things that come to mind!   A pretty robe, either silky lingerie type or a waffle weave depending on what she’s like would be two other things.  Another thing that I got at my shower that was super fun and a complete surprise was just a bag of all sorts of small goodies.  There was a bride Lolita wine glass, wine glass markers, fun paper cocktail napkins, a bottle opener, a little “i love you” note pad, some fun underwear, etc.  It was a welcome relief from blenders and pots!
