My uncle is in the hospital for a fall. He’s about 70, he’s got a lot of health issues and chronic SEVERE pain…like the only pain medicine he’s not currently on is morphine. Even with the pain meds, he still is always in pain, can’t function normally, doesn’t eat much. It scares me to think he might be dying. Scares me to tears every time I think about it.
He fell and broke some stuff and I want to send him something. I don’t know what to send him. He was a marine, he likes golf, he was a carpenter and always worked and was hard on his body…he doesn’t eat much, so I don’t think I should send him sweets or anything yummy. Though I don’t know…I’m gonna ask my aunt.
I don’t know if he would want flowers? A card obviously…I thought about getting him a teddy bear because I read somewhere that most men have one teddy bear and they take it with them on business trips and things where they’re going to be away from home. I really am at a loss as to what to get.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@soontobemrsm11: Has he rented a tv? Is there such a service available in the hospital in which he is a patient? Watching TV is something that would help pass the time.

Would he like any magazines or books? As PP suggested, something to pass the time would be nice. I’ve spent some time in the hospital and it’s sooo boring. Or movies if he has something to watch them on?

Audio books or a radio. He might still appreciate a potted plant to brighten his room up a bit…maybe some magazines?

Adding a vote for things to help him pass the time, especially if he’s in severe chronic pain that breaks through his medication. I worked in a hospital for years, and all the patients have to do is sleep and suffer from boredom. If his pain is making sleep difficult, anything to break the monotony (books, TV, handheld games, etc) will be a blessing.

Flowers or reading material are good suggestions. Not sure where you read that about teddy bears but I have never seen a grown man with a teddy bear, business trip or not.

@soontobemrsm11: My Father-In-Law is sick and I was thinking about getting him some word search books.
